"Le Premier volume de cet ouvrage paru à Paris en 1684 chez Barbin et Jean Marana en est l'auteur". Selon Quérard dans le "Dictionnaire des ouvrages anonymes, tome 2 p.176-177" Marana ne publia que les quatre premiers volumes de cet ouvrage et attribue les suivant à Cotolendi. "Cet ouvrage inspira les "Lettres Persanes" à Montesquieu".
