First edition, one of 200 "non destines au commerce" each numbered and signed by Bac. In addition to this colophon, has an original full page pencil and crayon sketch by Bac, to the front end paper, signed and dated 1935. The portrait is of the young hero of the Romantic Voyage, which was based upon his parents youth. There is also a warm gift inscription to Madame Fontana, who he refers to as his "old friend from Menton." A little staining to the paper covers and cracking to the paper of the spine. Inside mainly clean and tidy, but with some old tape marks where a business card (Madame Fontana's) was stuck to the half title. II, 100, [ii] pp + plates. 325 by 250mm (12Ÿ by 9Ÿ inches). Ferdinand Sigismond Bach known as Bac, draftsman, lithographer born in Stuttgart on August 1st, 1859 and died in Menton in 1952. He was well known for his historical caricatures. BAC designed and created Les Colombières, a house and garden in Menton (on the French Riviera). It was completed in 1927. The Fontana family were prominent members of the Menton community, with Louis Francois Fontana acting as local mayor for several years.
