First edition. Attractive deep red half leather contemporary binding, with red marbled boards. Gilt titles and decoration to the spine. The binding is in very good condition, with just a touch of rubbing. Internally a clean and tidy copy with just a little darkening to the page edges. Original paper covers are bound in. The work contains 138 reproductions of portraits and prints. L'Aiglon was Napoleon II or Napoleon François Charles Joseph (1811-1832), king of Rome, emperor of the French, prince of Parma, duke of Reichstadt. Although short lived, In 1900, the writer Edmond Rostand paid tribute to him by making him the main character in a play called L'Aiglon. Hence the title of this work the following year. 406 pages. 20cm x 14cm. .
