Eudore Cléaz [relié avec] Gringoire Comédie.

Two works by Banville bound together. The first is a First edition copy of Eudore Cléaze. Conte du Jour de L'An. Published by Alphonse Lemerre in 1870. Original soft covers are bound in. Publisher's vignette to the cover. The soft cover is repeated as the title page. 24 pages. 16cm x 8.5cm. In excellent condition. Next is a reprint edition of Gringoire comédie. This is not dated, but states Nouvelle Edition to the green paper covers. Published by Calmann Levy, with owner's name to the top of the covers and the half title pages. 68 pages. 18cm x 12cm. Both books are in excellent condition. The first is in fine condition, the second has a touch of edgewear to the paper cover with slight foxing, otherwise in fine condition. Book overall has a burgundy cloth spine with matching marbled boards and gilt titles to the spine. In very good condition with a touch of handling only. Book itself is 19cm x 13cm. Théodore de Banville (1823-1891) is today remembered more as a poet, but he was also passionate about the theatre, and influential in reviving French interest in the commedia dell'arte tradition, and the figure of Pierrot. Gringoire was his best known dramatic work. Eudore Cléaz is a short story that belongs to a collection of Banville's he called Esquisses parisiennes (Parisian Sketches). .
