Nearly 200 portrait miniatures, drawings and pastels from the collections of the British Museum and the National Galleries of Scotland. The production of private portraits grew throughout the Georgian and Regency periods and took on several forms: miniatures worn as jewellery, pastels and drawings either framed or kept in albums for private viewing. All are shown here, many by well-known artists of the period, such as Gainsborough, Ramsay, Wilkie and Lawrence.
