Rare first collected edition with a preface on ""Ursachen des verderbeten Schul-Wesens"", by Hoffmann’s son, Christian Gottfried Hoffmann ofthis pedagogical work that focuses on the education of youth and the organization of the school system. Hoffmann was a schoolmaster, pedagogue and secretary to Christian Weise in Zittau, while also working as a private tutor. In 1685, he became vice-principal (Konrektor) in Lauban, later becoming principal in 1695 and in 1708 he succeeded Christian Weise as head of the school in Zittau. He was the author of numerous pedagogical works.
