The leather has a little rubbing to it, with very slight cracking to the front hinge. A little foxing to the end papers. The original covers are beautiful clean examples. Benjamin Constant, was a Swiss-French political activist and writer on political theory and religion. First posthumous edition of this autoboiography. Benjamin Constant talks about his studies at the University of Edinburgh, where he met the British philosopher and politician James Mackintosh, as well as the Scottish historian Malcolm Laing. He mentions his stays in Paris with the couple of writers Amélie and Jean Baptiste Antoine Suard, his brief meeting with the future wife of Emmanuel de Pastoret, and details the beginnings of his relationship with Isabelle de Charrière.
