FirstSearch indique que cette édition a été éditée par le mathématicien Henry Briggs. Reliure en plein cuir, probablement des planches d'origine, avec un dos et une étiquette en cuir plus tardifs avec une décoration dorée. La reliure est en bon état, propre, avec un minimum de bosses et d'usure. La charnière du dos est légèrement fendue. Les pages de garde proviennent d'un ouvrage latin antérieur (XVIe siècle). Il est inhabituel de voir des pages utilisées de cette manière comme feuilles de garde. La reliure a été réalisée sans couverture intérieure sur les planches. Le premier plat porte l'ex-libris de Sir Lucius O'Brien Bart*, ainsi que les marques de propriété de Gilbert Clark, Johannis Clenche (1691) et Edmund Clampin ( ?). Hormis les marques de propriété, cet ouvrage est généralement propre et bien rangé. Il y a une légère marque d'humidité sur le bord supérieur, mais elle est très légère. L'ouvrage est écrit en deux colonnes, avec le grec et le latin côte à côte. Malgré le titre, cet ouvrage comprend les livres 1 à 6 des éléments d'Euclide. Gravures géométriques sur bois tout au long de l'ouvrage. Très bel exemplaire propre. [2]-250-[2] pp. 285 par 185mm (11Œ par 7Œ inches). Henry Briggs était un mathématicien anglais, dont la principale contribution fut la simplification des logarithmes et l'algorithme pour la division longue (qui est toujours utilisé). En 1619, il a été nommé professeur de géométrie à l'université d'Oxford et a produit cet ouvrage en 1620. Sans importance, mais néanmoins intéressant, il est à l'origine de la notion erronée de Californie en tant qu'île, qu'il a exposée dans un traité sur le passage du Nord-Ouest imprimé en 1622, avec une carte montrant l'île, et souvent réimprimée par la suite. *Sir Lucius O'Brien. A very nice copy of this illustrated work of Euclid. Conforms to OCLC: 867116145. Here, FirstSearch states that this edition was edited by the mathematician Henry Briggs. Full leather binding, probably original boards, with a later leather spine and label with gilt decoration. Binding is in good, clean condition, with minimal bumping and wear. Slight splitting to the spine hinge. The end papers are from an earlier (16th Century) Latin work. Unusual to see pages used as end papers in this way. The binding has been made without inside covering to the boards. The front board holds the bookplate of Sir Lucius O'Brien Bart* Also has ownership marks of Gilbert Clark, Johannis Clenche (1691) and Edmund Clampin (?). Apart from the ownership marks, this work is mainly clean and tidy. There is a light damp mark to the top edge, but a very faint one. The work is written in two columns, with the Greek and Latin side by side. Despite the title, this work includes books 1-6 of Euclid's elements. Geometrical woodcut engravings throughout.
