Le vélin est un peu assombri, mais il est en bon état. Médaillon gravé sur bois sur le titre avec les armoiries des 13 cantons et des 7 villes, second médaillon sur le feuillet 16 verso, montrant le serment des trois premiers confédérés (répété sur le dernier feuillet verso). Une feuille manuscrite, en anglais, expliquant l'ouvrage et nommant les cantons et les états figurant dans le médaillon, est insérée à la suite. 16 feuillets, 562 pages, 12 feuillets. Première édition française de l'ouvrage principal de Josias Simler (1530-1576), sa "Republica Helvetiorum". Jusqu'à la fin de l'ancienne Confédération, il s'agit de l'ouvrage de droit constitutionnel suisse le plus populaire, publié un an après la première édition latine à Zurich en 1576. La note manuscrite indique qu'il a été traduit par le juriste Innocent Gentillet (mort à Genève vers 1595). Il traite de l'ordre public, politique et social. Dans la première partie, Simler propose une histoire des confédérations, proche des chroniques de Stumpf et de Tschudi. La seconde partie est une présentation complète et vivante de la Confédération suisse à son époque. Complet. 15cm x 10cm. Henry Yelverton, 1er vicomte de Longueville (1664 -1704) hérita du titre de 15e baron Grey de Ruthin en 1679. Il soutint Guillaume d'Orange lors de son invasion en 1688 et fut créé vicomte de Longueville en 1690. Il amassa une importante bibliothèque qui resta dans sa famille jusqu'aux dispersions de la fin du XVIIIe siècle.

Vellum is a little darkened, but substantially sound. Woodcut medallion on title with the coat of arms of the 13 cantons and 7 cities, second medallion on leaf 16 verso, showing the oath of the first three confederates (repeated on last leaf verso). Loosely inserted is a hand written sheet, in English, explaining the work, and naming the cantons and states in the medallion. 16 leaves, 562 pp., 12 leaves. Until the end of the old Confederation, it was the most popular book on Swiss constitutional law, published one year after the first Latin edition in Zurich in 1576. He supported William of Orange during his invasion in 1688, and in 1690 was created Viscount de Longueville.
