Ron Cobb (19372020) was a highly influential American political cartoonist and artist, as well as a renowned concept designer for several famous science fiction and fantasy films. Ironically, he began his career at Disney working on "Sleeping Beauty," after serving in the U.S. Army (including time in Vietnam), returned to civilian life and started contributing cartoons to the Los Angeles Free Press in 1965. He became a prominent figure of the American underground press in the late 1960s and early 1970s. His cartoons, noted for their sharp criticism of U.S. politics, militarism, racism, and environmental issues, were syndicated widely in underground and radical publications across the U.S. and the worldsuch as the Berkeley Barb, Chicago Seed, and East Village Other. His work was collected in several books, and he is also credited with creating the Ecology symbol used in the Ecology Flag. Later, he transitioned to work as a concept designer for films like "Alien," "Star Wars," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Conan the Barbarian," "Back to the Future," and "Total Recall," among many others. .
