Couverture souple d'origine. Les légendes et le texte sont trilingues. Principalement en italien (c'est-à-dire à l'intérieur de l'image), avec un texte en anglais et en français à côté. Ils sont légèrement noircis et présentent plusieurs petites déchirures fermées sur les bords de la couverture. L'intérieur est propre et soigné, mais les bords des pages sont légèrement noircis. Les feuilles sont présentées à moitié intentionnellement non ouvertes (la partie intérieure de chaque double feuille est vierge). Une publication remarquable qui raconte l'expérience de l'emprisonnement dans un camp de concentration, non seulement à travers le texte, mais surtout à travers la vaste collection de dessins et de caricatures réalisés par le peintre et interné Alessandro Berretti. Ces uvres visuelles allient le réalisme documentaire à un humour sous-jacent notable, un moyen par lequel l'artiste cherchait à prendre une certaine distance psychologique par rapport aux conditions oppressantes de la captivité. First edition. A limited signed art book of the artist's experiences during the second world war as a prisoner of war. Original soft covers. The captions and text are tri-lingual. Primarily in Italian (ie within the image) there is an English and French text alongside. These are a little darkened, and have several small closed tears to the cover edges. Internally clean and tidy, but with a little darkening to the page edges throughout. The sheets are presented half intentionally unopened, (with the inner part of each double sheet blank). A remarkable publication that recounts the experience of imprisonment in a concentration camp, conveyed not only through text but, more significantly, through the extensive collection of drawings and cartoons produced by the painter and internee Alessandro Berretti. These visual works merge documentary realism with a notable undercurrent of humour, a mode through which the artist sought a degree of psychological distance from the oppressive circumstances of captivity. The volume is organised into three principal sections: The Stations of the Cross; Captivity Seen in a Moment of Good Humour (featuring colour cartoons); and Snapshots of the Concentration Camp (caricatures).
