First edition. An attractive copy of this first edition, in a heavily embossed signed binding by Edmonds & Remmnants (Bookbinders; partnership of Thomas Remnant and Jacob Edmonds from 1831). Lovely dark red leather with gilt designs and embossed boards. All edges gilt, which are also embossed. Gorgeous hand made end papers. There is an additional leaf added to the book, which has been printed in red and black letterpress, dated November 1859 and stating that this book is a gift to Amelia on her 21st birthday from her brother Bynon. Frontis portrait of Montgomery and over 100 engraved illustrations. The binding is in good, clean condition, with a little rubbing to the front hinge only.
