Paris / Blois M.D. / Mieusement photography 1889 Une grande photographie originale sur albumine, représentant l'Exposition universelle de 1889, qui s'est tenue à l'intérieur du socle du Palais des Beaux-Arts, alors tout juste achevé. Réalisée dans de magnifiques tons sépia, cette photographie mesure 400 × 285 mm (15Ÿ × 11Œ pouces). La photographie est montée sur un carton rigide de couleur crème, mesurant 53,5 cm x 42,5 cm. Au bas de la photographie, le titre et le nom de l'éditeur sont imprimés en blanc. Le nom du photographe est estampé en bas à droite de la photographie. Dans l'ensemble, la photographie est en excellent état, sans taches, à l'exception d'une petite zone manquante en bas à gauche de la prise de vue (qui n'affecte pas vraiment l'image). Le carton de support est légèrement foncé, mais en bon état. Une initiale écrite au crayon figure en bas à droite du carton de support. S'agit-il peut-être d'un monogramme formé des initiales du photographe ? Une photographie magnifiquement composée, mettant en valeur des détails publicitaires et architecturaux de l'époque. Nous n'avons pas réussi à trouver d'autre exemplaire de cette photographie, bien qu'elle ait manifestement servi à des gravures et des cartes postales (sans mention de l'auteur) à l'époque. Le Palais des Beaux-Arts et le Palais des Arts Libéraux étaient deux bâtiments jumeaux construits pour l'Exposition universelle de Paris de 1889. Ils étaient l'uvre de l'architecte Jean-Camille Formigé. Situés sur le Champ de Mars, ils se dressaient de part et d'autre de la tour Eiffel. Leur démolition a commencé en septembre 1897 afin de laisser place à de nouveaux bâtiments pour l'Exposition universelle de 1900. Séraphin Médéric Mieusement (1840-1905) était originaire de Gonneville-la-Mallet (Seine-Maritime) et s'était installé à Blois, dans la Loire. D'abord photographe portraitiste, il devint un photographe de monuments historiques de renom.

A large original albumen photograph, showing the World's fair exhibition of 1889, which was held inside the base of the newly constructed Palace of the Liberal Arts. In beautiful sepia tones, the photograph is 400 by 285mm (15Ÿ by 11Œ inches). The photograph is mounted on a stiff cream card backing, which is 53,5cm x 42.5cm. To the base of the photograph is the title and publisher printed in white. The name of the photographer is embossed to the bottom right of the photograph. Overall, the picture is in excellent, clean condition, bar a small area of loss to the bottom left of the shot (not really affecting the image). The backing card is slightly darkened, but in sound condition. There is a pencilled initial to the bottom right of the backing card. This is possibly a monogram of the photographers initials? A beautifully composed photograph showing advertising and architectural details of the period. We have been unable to find another copy of this photograph, although it was clearly used for engravings and postcards (without credit) at the time. The Palace of Fine Arts and the Palace of Liberal Arts were twin buildings constructed for the 1889 Paris Universal Exhibition. They were the work of the architect Jean-Camille Formigé. Located on the Champ de Mars, they stood on either side of the Eiffel Tower. They were demolished starting in September 1897 to make way for new buildings for the 1900 Universal Exhibition. Séraphin Médéric Mieusement (1840-1905) was from Gonneville-la-Mallet (Seine-Maritime), and based himself in Blois in the Loire. Initially a portrait photographer, he became a renowned photographer of historical monuments. He was one of the most important French architectural and documentary photographers of the 19th century. He was the official photographer for the Commission des Monuments Historiques: essentially the French state's chief photographer for heritage documentation .
