Bound in contemporary full vellum. Manuscript title on spine. The book opens with a dedication of the author to Louis XIII, king of France, written in Rome, dated July 1621, follows another dedication by Bugnot. [2] Lugd. Batav. et Roterod. ( Leiden & Rotterdam), Ex Officina Hackiana, 1669 , format in-8°, 19 x 12 cm engraved title + (22) nn pp + 624 pp + (12) nn pp (index), Uniformly bound with vol.1. The book opens with a dedication of the author to Louis XIV, further he uses also the pseud. Theandro Bugnotio. Vol. 1 is a re-edition of John Barclay's text with notes by Bugnot. Vol 2 is the continuation of Barclay's Argenis in three parts by Bugnot. It is the only edition ! The book is presented as a adventure- and travel novel but contains covert political content and was explicitly written as a continuation of Argenis. Very nice set.
