Indre-Loire Service Hydraulique 1853 Plan manuscrit dépliant de la commune de Ports et de ses environs. 8 pages pliées et collées, dessinées d'un seul côté. La première page est le texte / permissions et autorisations signées et datées (avec cachet officiel) par les personnes impliquées dans le projet. (4 personnes différentes ont écrit des commentaires et signé le plan). Ce plan semble avoir été établi pour accompagner un projet de nettoyage / réparation des routes et des ponts de la région. Joli plan de la région, colorié à la main, avec une section supplémentaire ajoutée sur papier (voir photos) montrant l'ensemble de la commune de Ports, y compris des sections de la rivière Vienne. Le plan est dessiné sur du papier calque / glassine, collé sur une carte rigide. Ce dernier est un peu assombri, mais sans défauts significatifs. Les détails et la qualité du travail sont agréables. Malgré le titre, il n'y a pas de pont dans cette commune. 290 par 1820mm

A folding manuscript map / cadastral plan of the commune of Ports and the surrounding area. 8 pages folded and pasted together, drawn to one side only. The first pate is the text / permissions and authorisations signed and dated (with official stamp) by individuals involved with the project. ( 4 different individuals have written comments and signed the plan). This seems to have been drawn up to accompany a cleaning / repair project for the roads and bridges of the area. Attractive hand coloured plan of the area, with extra section added on paper (see photos) showing the whole of the commune of Ports, including sections of the river Vienne. The plan is drawn on tracing paper / glassine, pasted to stiff card. This is a little darkened, but without significant flaws. Nice detailing and quality of work. Despite the title, there are no bridges in this commune. 290 by 1820mm (11œ by 71Ÿ inches). .

Paris Langlume et Peltier 1819 Une édition rare publiée par Langlume et Peltier. Il ne s'agit pas du livre, mais de 12 planches plus un titre gravé avec vignette. (Il manque donc une planche). Gumuchian 4641 présente la même version non colorée des planches que celle présentée ici. Édition ancienne, gravée avec un petit frontispice et plusieurs planches gravées signées par Saint-Claude, Claronne, Saint-Denis, Chareton, Sarene, Versailles, etc. On y trouve l'illustration de la famille prenant son dîner dans les branches du Poirier sans pareil. Ce poirier pouvait apparemment accueillir jusqu'à une douzaine de convives. On dit généralement qu'il a été brûlé par les troupes alliées en 1814, mais une gravure de 1822 représentant les lieux à visiter à Paris suggère qu'il a survécu plus longtemps. Les planches sont en bon état, avec seulement quelques marques. Belles illustrations des activités des enfants. Bien qu'il ne s'agisse pas d'un exemplaire complet, les planches ont été retirées de WorldCat / OCLC : 460892067.

A scarce early edition published by Langlume et Peltier. This is not the book, but 12 of the plates plus engraved title with vignette. Gumuchian 4641 has the same uncoloured version of the plates as found here. Early Edition, engraved with a small frontispiece, and several engraved plates signed by Saint-Claude, Claronne, Saint-Denis, Chareton, Sarene, Versailles, etc. Included here is the illustration of the family eating dinner in the tree-tops of le Poirier sans pareil. This pear tree could apparently accommodate up to a dozen diners. Commonly said to be burned by Allied troops in 1814, evidence from an 1822 engraving of places to visit in Paris, suggest that it survived longer. The plates are in decent condition, with a little marking only. Nice examples of children's activities. Although this is not a complete copy, the plates have been removed from WorldCat / OCLC: 460892067. .

Plymouth n/a 1829 Une jolie aquarelle française de la plage et du port de Plymouth, avec titre et date de 1829. Montée sur carton blanc (un peu assombri). L'image elle-même est en très bon état lumineux. Tenu dans un cadre en bois plus tard (milieu du XXe siècle). L'aquarelle mesure 13,5 cm x 9 cm. Le cadre mesure 22 cm x 18 cm.

An attractive original watercolour of the beach and harbour at Plymouth, with title and date of 1829. By unknown French artist. Mounted on white card (somewhat darkened). The picture itself is in very good, bright condition. Held in a later (mid 20th century) wooden frame. Watercolour is 13.5cm x 9cm Frame is 22cm x 18cm.

Cologne Henry Wommer 1684 Première édition. Le lieu de publication, Cologne, est probablement fictif, et cet ouvrage a très certainement été imprimé aux Pays-Bas. Reliure cartonnée relativement récente, avec des plats marbrés et un titre en cuir sur le dos, orné de lettres dorées. En très bon état, ne présentant que de très légères traces d'usure. L'intérieur est en excellent état. Propre et lumineux de bout en bout. 24 pages. 14 cm x 8,5 cm. Cette brochure a vu le jour à un moment charnière de la confrontation entre la République néerlandaise et la France de Louis XIV. La guerre des Réunions (1683-1684) venait de s'achever avec la trêve de Ratisbonne (Regensburg), signée le 15 août 1684, qui accordait à la France Strasbourg, le Luxembourg et d'autres gains territoriaux issus de sa politique dite des « Réunions ». Elle est répertoriée dans la collection « Dutch Pamphlets Online » de Brill, qui conserve des milliers de documents de ce type datant de l'âge d'or néerlandais et de la période de conflit qui s'ensuivit avec la France. L'auteur reste toutefois inconnu. Aucun exemplaire n'était disponible au moment du catalogage, et seuls quelques exemplaires sont conservés dans des bibliothèques (en Allemagne, aux Pays-Bas ou en Pologne). First edition. The publication place of Cologne is probably fictitious, and this work was almost certainly printed in Holland. Relatively recent hardback binding with marbled boards and leather title to the spine with gilt titles. In very good condition, with very slight rubbing only. Internally in beautiful condition. Clean and bright throughout. 24 pages long. 14cm x 8.5cm. The pamphlet emerged at a pivotal moment in the confrontation between the Dutch Republic and Louis XIV's France. The War of the Reunions (16831684) had just concluded with the Truce of Ratisbon (Regensburg), signed on 15 August 1684, which rewarded France with Strasbourg, Luxembourg, and other territorial gains from its so-called "Reunion" policy. It is catalogued in the Dutch Pamphlets Online collection by Brill, which preserves thousands of such documents from the Dutch Golden Age and the subsequent period of conflict with France. The author, however, remains unknown. No copies available at the time of cataloguing, with a handful of library holdings (All Germany, Netherlands or Poland). Attractive hand-coloured lithographic sheet with a sequence of captioned scenes from Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, including "tempted to leave home," "shipwrecked," "making boat," "building his hut," "rescues Friday," and "leaving the island." A vivid and decorative narrative print, evidently intended for a juvenile or educational audience, with the action arranged in a charming story-panel format around a central island scene. Il s'agissait d'un groupe de réseaux spéciaux engagés dans des activités de résistance, notamment dans le domaine du renseignement militaire, politique et économique, du sabotage et du soutien aux forces alliées dans la Belgique occupée. Publié en 2000 exemplaires numérotés. Couverture souple avec illustration en couleur collée sur la couverture avant. Les couvertures sont globalement propres, mais présentent quelques traces. Intérieur propre et soigné, avec un léger noircissement des bords des pages. Recueil de poèmes, de bons mots et d'illustrations pleine page (dont beaucoup en couverture) se moquant pour la plupart de l'ennemi récemment vaincu. 96 pages. 32,5 cm x 24,5 cm. uvre importante de caricature militaire/politique.

First edition. A very nice copy of this book of illustrations and caricatures. Sold as a fund raiser for agents of the S.R.A. This was a group of special networks engaged in resistance activities including military, political, and economic intelligence, sabotage, and support for allied forces within occupied Belgium. Issued in 2000 numbered copies. Soft covers with a tipped on colour illustration to the front cover. The covers are mainly clean but with a touch of marking. Internally clean and tidy throughout, with fractional darkening to the page edges. A collection of poetry, bon mots and full page illustrations (many of them in full cover) many mocking the recently defeated enemy. 96 pages. 32.5cm x 24.5cm. Un bel album, contenant 74 grandes photographies originales de cinq voyages. Il s'agit de Berlin 1895, des Alpes françaises et de Nancy en 1896, de Trèves en 1897, d'Interlaken et des Alpes suisses en 1898 et du Tyrol en 1899. Les photographies ont été achetées auprès d'éminents photographes commerciaux de l'époque. Les photographies françaises sont en grande partie de ND Phot, les suisses de Schroeder & Cie de Zurich et d'Edition Photoglob. La majorité des épreuves sont soit à l'albumine, soit à des épreuves gélatino-argentiques anciennes. Comme la première gélatine d'argent était si semblable à l'albumine, il est difficile de le dire. Il existe un certain nombre d'imprimés colorisés. La plupart des tirages sont assez grands, avec un bon nombre aussi grand que 21 cm x 27,5 cm La plupart sont imprimés un à une page, mais quelques-uns des plus petits tirages sont imprimés deux à une page. A lovely album, containing 74 large original photographs from five trips. These are Berlin 1895, French Alps and Nancy in 1896, Trier in 1897, Interlaken and the Swiss Alps in 1898 and the Tirol in 1899. The photographs were purchased from prominent commercial photographers of the time. The French photographs are largely from ND Phot, the Swiss from Schroeder & Cie of Zurich and Edition Photoglob. The majority of the prints are either albumen or early silver gelatin prints. As the early silver gelatin were so similar to albumen it is difficult to tell. There are a number of colourised prints. Most of the prints are quite large, with quite a few as large as 210 mm x 275 mm. Most are printed one to a page, but a couple of the smaller prints are printed two to a page. One of the images is a double / folding photograph. Album size 27cm x 36cm

Les planches sont un peu frottées et décolorées, mais dans l'ensemble en bon état. Annonce de l'éditeur sur le panneau intérieur, mais pas de détails sur la publication. 15 pages contenant 30 vues de Bretagne (une seule face). Très jolie coloration. Une touche de marquage à la première page, sinon très propre. Nous ne pouvons trouver aucun exemple de cette publication sur OCLC ou en ligne. Emile Mage était avant tout un photographe d'artiste, mais il se mêle aussi d'objets d'Art, de costumes bretons, et semble-t-il de vues lithographiées. 175 x 115 mm

Boards are somewhat rubbed and faded, but overall in sound condition. Publisher's advert to the inside board, but no publication details. 15 pages containing 30 views of Brittany (to one side only). Very nice colouring. A touch of marking to the first page, otherwise very clean. We can find no examples of this publication on OCLC or online. Emile Mage was primarily an artistic photographer, but he also dabbled in objets d'Art, Breton costumes, and - it would seem - lithographed views. 175 x 115 mm (7 x 4œ inches).

Couvertures souples originales avec texte et emblème héraldique sur les couvertures. Elles sont saines, mais quelque peu assombries. These are sound, but somewhat darkened. Some light marking and a little nicking to the head and tail of the spine. Internally the pages are clean and neat (and complete) with a touch of darkening to the page edges. The sewn binding is very loose - just holding the book together, particularly to the first gather. Scarce reprint (improved and revised 10th edition) of the original business pamphlet had become necessary as, within three years of the original, the contents were viewed more as a practical text book than a promotional item. At the time, saccharin was considered be a good inclusion, as - to quote this booklet - it never creates acidity or heartburn, and is, in these respects, far healthier than sugar! Blue soft covers are a little creased at edges, and inside the staples holding the booklet together are somewhat rusted. Overall good. 48 pages. 210 x 135 mm (8Πx 5Πinches).

First edition. Scarce. Hardback mottled boards with paper title label. Part of the title page is printed in gilt letters. Boards are quite rubbed, and the front board is a little loose but holding well. Inside the book has some age toning but is otherwise good. viii, 136 pp. With illustrated frontis. 230 x 140 mm (9 x 5œ inches). Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales (1796 - 1817) was the only child of George, Prince of Wales, and his wife, Caroline of Brunswick. Charlotte was to ascend the British throne after the deaths of her grandfather, George III and her father, but died in childbirth - at the tender age of 21.

Manchester: J. Gleave 1813 Joseph Gleave, 1773-1828, was born in Tabley, Cheshire. He was a bookseller and printer, particularly interested in promoting Sunday Schools. The business was taken over in 1828 by his youngest son, also called Joseph. An early Manchester imprint, Manchester was a small town until Arkwright opened the Cotton Mill in 1780. From around 1800, Manchester grew at an astonishing rate, becoming a city in 1835.

Contemporary full leather binding, with blind stamped decoration to the spine and boards. Frontispiece. Lovely engraving of "The Royal Psalmist" facing the psalms. Unpaginated. An attractive copy of an early Manchester printing.

Paris N/P 1802 Une jolie lithographie coloriée à la main, non datée mais datant de 1802. Deux panneaux sur une feuille, posés sur une feuille de support en carton brun. Le coloriage à la main est d'une grande qualité et la feuille est en bon état. Bien que l'artiste soit inconnu, "Les Musées de la Ville de Paris" indiquent que cette feuille provient d'un album intitulé simplement "Caricature" et qu'il s'agit de la feuille XIX. Les deux panneaux montrent l'enterrement de l'actrice et danseuse Marie-Adrienne Chameroy. Elle était morte de consomption en 1802 (six mois après la reprise du culte) à l'âge de 23 ans. Lorsque son entourage et son cercueil sont arrivés à l'église Saint-Roch, les portes ont été barrées, comme le montre le premier panneau avec un homme et un chien qui barrent le passage. La nature de la foule présente est illustrée par les femmes plantureuses du train funéraire. Le refus de l'enterrer aurait été motivé par la moralité de sa vie et par une longue tradition qui voulait que les actrices ne soient pas admises à l'église. Cet acte a suscité beaucoup d'émoi, jusqu'à Napoléon lui-même. Le cortège s'est ensuite rendu à l'église des "Filles Saint Thomas" où une messe a été dite en bonne et due forme. Les panneaux mesurent 22 cm x 17 cm et la feuille 31 cm x 21,5 cm. Première édition. Paris Musées inventaire G.27615. British Museum 1856,0712.663 (deuxième panneau seulement).

An attractive hand coloured lithograph, undated but 1802. Two panels on one sheet, laid onto a brown card backing sheet. The hand colouring is of a high quality and the sheet is in good, clean condition. Although the artist is unknown, "Les Musées de la Ville de Paris" state that this is from an album called simply "Caricature," and that it was sheet XIX, The two panels show the burial of the actress and dancer Marie-Adrienne Chameroy. She had died of consumption in 1802 (six months after the resumption of worship being permitted) at the age of 23. When her large entourage and coffin arrived at St Roch church, the doors were barred, shown here with a man and dog barring the way in the first panel. The nature of the crowd attending is displayed in the buxom nature of the women in the funeral train. Allegedly the refusal to bury her was based on the morality of her life, and a long standing tradition of barring actresses from church. The act caused much upset, even to the level of Napoleon himself. The procession then made its way to the church of the "Filles Saint Thomas" where mass was duly said. No date, but includes mention of the Old Chain Pier having been destroyed by fire in 1896. Boards a little darkened and back board has a bend / break in it. See photos. London T. Nelson and Sons 1867 Première édition. Complète avec 12 lithographies en couleur de haute qualité et le texte. Fait partie de la série "Nelsons' Pictorial Guide-Books for Tourists". Reliure cartonnée à couverture lilas, estampillée à l'aveugle et dorée, avec une lithographie en couleur collée au centre de la couverture. (Il s'agit de l'une des 12 lithographies). Papiers de garde bleu pâle. La première page de garde porte le cachet du libraire "W.H. Smith & Co". L'ouvrage est complet avec 11 lithographies à l'intérieur et 32 pages de texte d'accompagnement. Nelson a publié d'autres ouvrages à la même époque. L'une d'entre elles était un portfolio avec des planches détachées et 16 pages de texte. Une autre avec 24 planches combinant les illustrations intérieures et extérieures. L'état de l'ouvrage est excellent. Lilac covered blind and gilt stamped hardback with a colour lithograph pasted to the centre of the front cover. (This is one of the 12 lithographs). Pale blue end papers. Blind stamped booksellers embossed with "W.H. Smith & Co" to the front end paper. The work is complete with 11 lithographs inside, and 32 pages of accompanying text. There were other publications by Nelson at the same time. One was a portfolio with loose plates and 16 pages of text. Another with 24 plates combines the Interior and Exterior illustrations. Condition is excellent. A little fading to the front cover and spine, but clean and with minimal handling. Internally clean and tidy throughout. 11cm x 17cm. 32 pages. London J. Pitt C. 1800 C 1800. Première édition. Un petit livre de chapitres. Couvertures en papier jaune, contenant 12 chansons et trois gravures sur bois. En bon état. Il s'agit d'un objet jetable, brut et prêt à l'emploi. Le titre jaune a été imprimé de manière décentrée et les pages dépassent un peu. Légères traces d'usure sur les pages, mais dans l'ensemble en bon état. Certaines pages ne sont pas coupées. 16 pages. Ce recueil compile des chansons populaires interprétées au Theatre Royal, Drury Lane et dans d'autres lieux publics à une époque où la musique et la chanson faisaient partie intégrante de la vie théâtrale et sociale à Londres. Drury Lane, sous la direction de personnalités comme David Garrick (1747-1776), était un centre majeur pour la musique théâtrale, y compris l'opéra comique, les interludes et les chansons intégrées dans les pièces et les représentations. J. Pitts (John Pitts) était un important imprimeur de ballades de rue londonien, actif entre 1765 et 1844 environ. C 1800. First edition. A small chapbook. Yellow paper covers, containing 12 songs and three woodcuts. In good condition. It is a rough and ready, disposable item. The yellow title has been printed off centre, and the pages jut out a little. Slight edgewear to the pages, but overall in good, clean condition. Some pages uncut. 16 pages. This collection compiles popular songs performed at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and other public venues during a period when music and song were integral to both theatrical and social life in London. Drury Lane, under the management of figures like David Garrick (17471776), was a major centre for theatrical music, including comic opera, interludes, and songs woven into plays and performances. J. Pitts (John Pitts) was a prominent London street ballad printer active from approximately 1765 to 1844. He operated in the Seven Dials district, a well-known center for popular and cheap print production in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Pitts specialized in printing broadsidessingle sheets featuring ballads, songs, and topical versesintended for mass public consumption. 10cm x 7cm. Charming vintage nostalgia. First edition. Slim illustrated children's cut-out book. Actually no need for cutting as all the figures are pre-cut and will just press out. All illustrations intact. Also one page that can be painted / coloured by the child as part of the enjoyment. Very clean, and in an almost 'as new' condition. Lovely (wartime era) publication for making a 'stand up' farm with colour illustration throughout. Circa 1942. 12 unnumbered pages. 270 by 260mm (10٠by 10Πinches). Small booklet, part of the Pleasure Books for Children range. Undated, but circa 1853. Story variously attributed to Oliver Goldsmith, Giles Jones, Griffith Jones, and John Newbery. Illustrated with six hand coloured drawings by John Absolon. 24 unnumbered pages. OCLC Number / Unique Identifier: 702484527. Elton & Co. was formed around 1850 by Robert Henry Elton and John McLoughlin Jr. By 1855 imprints read: John McLoughlin, successor to Elton & Co. The sewn binding is in excellent shape, and the paper covers are only slightly handled / darkened. A previous owner's name is written across the top of the front cover, and verso of same. Back cover publisher's advertisement reads: Pleasure books for children. Twelve kinds. 175 x 130 mm (7 x 5 inches). .

New York John McLoughlin 1860 John McLoughlin was a Scottish-born coach maker who became a prominent figure in the New York publishing industry during the 19th century. He began in 1819 after moving to New York and initially worked for the Sterling Iron Company, where he developed an interest in printing. By 1828, he had established his own printing business on Tryon Row in Manhattan, focusing on publishing semi-religious tracts for children under the title McLoughlin's Books for Children. In 1840, McLoughlin partnered with wood engraver Robert H. Elton to form Elton & Co., which specialised in toy books, comic almanacs, and valentines. His son, John McLoughlin Jr., eventually took over in 1850 when both senior partners retired. The firm of McLoughlin Brothers is listed at 24 Beekman St. in the New York directories for 1858 to 1862, McLoughlin Bros. was located at 30 Beekman St., New York, between 1863 and April, 1870. Under John Jr.'s leadership, the company became known as McLoughlin Brothers and pioneered the use of colour printing technologies, including chromolithography, for children's books. This innovation made their publications visually striking and widely popular. The McLoughlin Brothers expanded their offerings to include games, puzzles, paper dolls, and other children's products. By 1870, they had opened the largest colour printing factory in the United States. Their works often featured adaptations of British stories by illustrators such as Randolph Caldecott and Kate Greenaway. The company thrived until it was sold to Milton Bradley in 1920. Despite this transition, the McLoughlin imprint continued to produce children's books into the early 20th century.

First edition. An attractive children's chapbook with hand coloured wood engravings. Pink soft covers, with old tape reinforcement to the spine. Otherwise reasonably clean if a little darkened. Inside, are eight pages, each with a half page hand coloured illustration and half page of verse. Clean but a little darkened. Adverts for the publisher to the rear cover. Would be an excellent copy if not for the tape. 15cm x 11cm. Conforms to WorldCat / OCLC: 33100846 with the curious exception that all the records record it as "the story" rather than "history."

Reprint. 16mo. Full leather binding. Two parts. Each with their own frontispiece and title page. Half title, which is a warning from the publisher about impersonations (Beware the 'Old Week's preparation' and the fake 'New Week's preparation' Frontis to verso of this. Title, with contemporary ownership signature. Imprimatur of George [II] to the verso of the title. The leather binding is a little rubbed and with a touch of cracking to the front hinge. A new front end paper has been added at some point. Still presentable. Internally in sound, but slightly darkened, state. Annotations / family tree to the rear end paper. Overall a decent copy. xi, 156. 156 pp.

First Edition. Pamphlet. 8vo. Title page slightly darkened with a small closed tear and a couple of ink spots to the margin. Otherwise a clean copy. Recent paper wrappers. In 1853, Mr Chambers was given leave by parliament to introduce a bill to the Commons. The premise of the bill ('A bill to facilitate personal liberty in certain cases') gave wide access to a panel of commissioners to enter Roman Catholic convents with the aim of securing the freedom of those held there against their will. Catholics viewed this as a scurrilous anti-Catholic attack, and denied that any nuns were prisoners. They viewed the legislation as a reaction to the recent restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in England and Wales. The list of signatories to the rear begins with the Lords, whose names are led by Charles H Clifford & Francis Stonor.
