With a bibliography at the end.
A comprehensive work on Brazilian sculptor Maria Martins (1894-1973), whose live was divided between sculpture and social receptions at the Brazilian embassy in Washington, taken over by her husband Carlos Martins. There, interacting with surrealist artists and more intensely with Marcel Duchamp, she produced some of her most important and monumental works. British critic Dawn Ades, a specialist in Latin American art, compares her work to that of sculptors such as Brancusi, André Masson, Giacometti and Henry Moore. By the final phase of her life, Maria Martins published books about India, China and philosophy.
A stunning book about one of the most important artists in Brazilian sculpture. She gave French names to many of her works.
