Aquatinte coloriée à la main tirée de l'ouvrage de Combe intitulé « The Tour of Doctor Syntax, in the search of the Picturesque A Poem » (Le voyage du docteur Syntax à la recherche du pittoresque, un poème). Publié à l'origine en 1815. Cet exemplaire provient d'une réédition de 1823. Coloriage original à la main. Les couleurs sont assez pâles, mais il est difficile de déterminer si cela est dû à une décoloration ou à un coloriage subtil ! Sous passe-partout / monticule dans un cadre en bois foncé assez récent avec des bords dorés et sous verre. Une pièce attrayante. L'illustration mesure 9 cm x 11 cm. Le cadre mesure 23,5 cm x 28 cm.

Reprint. A hand coloured aquatint from Combe's "The Tour of Doctor Syntax, in the search of the Picturesque A Poem." Originally published in 1815. This copy is from a reprint edition of 1823. Original hand colouring. This is fairly pale, although it is not clear whether this is from fading or subtle colouring! Under passe partout / mound in a fairly recent dark wood frame with gilt edges and under glass. An attractive piece. The illustration is 9cm x 11cm. The frame is 23.5cm x 28cm. ,

A Nap in the Country, the print on top, represents the mid-day rest of a rustic pair, who, while their sheep are calmly grazing and their dog is keeping faithful watch, are, beneath the shadows of spreading trees, indulging in forty winks in the open country, after their early morning toils. A Nap in Town, the print on bottom, which may also be taken as an afternoon siesta, though equally luxurious, is not enjoyed under such healthy conditions as the preceding the town pair are taking their repose with as much lazy ease as the circumstances will permit. London Rudolph Ackermann 1813 Gravure attrayante, coloriée à la main par Rowlandson. Retirée de "Poetical Sketches of Scarborough" (Esquisses poétiques de Scarborough). Cette uvre se composait à l'origine de vingt et une planches gravées à l'eau-forte par Thomas Rowlandson d'après James Green. L'aquatinte a été ajoutée par John Bluck et Joseph Stadler. Les croquis de Green ont été réalisés en tant que souvenirs et n'étaient pas destinés à la publication, mais ils ont finalement été publiés en raison de la demande populaire. Les couleurs sont belles et nettes, ce qui en fait un exemplaire attrayant. La feuille présente un léger assombrissement de la zone vierge, ainsi qu'une tache de colle et une entaille sur le bord inférieur, là où elle a été retirée du livre original. La gravure mesure 11 cm x 18 cm. La feuille mesure 14,5 cm x 24 cm.

An attractive, hand coloured engraving by Rowlandson. Removed from "Poetical Sketches of Scarborough." This work originally consisted of twenty-one plates etched by Thomas Rowlandson after James Green. The aquatint was added by John Bluck and Joseph Stadler. The sketches by Green were made as souvenirs and not intended for publication, but were ultimately published due to popular demand. Nice clean colouring making an attractive copy. Sheet has a little darkening to the blank area, and has glue stain and nicking to the bottom edge where removed from the original book. engraving is 11cm x 18cm. sheet is 14.5cm x 24cm. First Edition. .

This sketch, which is characterised by the artist's usual spirit when dealing with kindred subjects, represents the situation of a rustic swain, whose philanderings have landed him in the midst of the perplexities of a double dilemma. It is seemingly 'washing day,' and the gallant intruder has effected his admission to court the graces of a pretty maiden, who is thrown into consternation at the risk to which her suitor, by an awkward contretemps, is suddenly exposed. The pair have evidently been disturbed at the moment the lady was engaged in drawing a mug of ale for the refreshment of her admirer ; in the confusion, the tap of the beer barrel is still left running, and all the maid's solicitude is centred in the position of her swain, who has incautiously taken refuge in the copper. A very disagreeable-looking old beldame is kindling a blazing fire in the stove, while a buxom wench is working away at the pump, which is pouring gallons of water into the unlucky Lothario's place of concealment. The youth is hesitating midway between the ordeals of fire or water, and he is struggling to effect his escape from both, at the risk of exposure and its consequences.
