Summary Recent research on the collections treasured by artists during their lifetime, or those collections they had access to, has contributed significantly to the understanding of their own compositions. Traditional historiography has favoured the study of the royal and aristocratic collections that could have inspired artists rather than of the artists' own collections. Only those of the 'great' artists, such as Rubens, Bernini, Vel zquez or Mengs, have been comprehensively examined. In the eighteenth century, the notion of collecting itself was transformed. Dimension extérieur : 55,8 x 40 cm. Cuvette : 50 x 35,5 cm. Magnifique gravure au burin d'époque, peinte d’après Rubens, dessinée par Jean-Marc Nattier et gravée par Antoine Trouvain. En excellent état général. A Paris chez le Seigneur Nattier, peintre de l'académie royale rue Frementeau. Gravure accompagnée d'un texte : Le Grand Duc Ferdinand épouse la Princesse en vertu de la procuration du Roy Henri IV que Bellegarde Grand Ecuier de France lui avoit apportée. Dossat et Silleri avoient negotié ce mariage et le Cardinal Aldobrandin Légat du Pape en fait la ceremonie dans l’Eglise Sta Maria del fiore. L’himenée porte la queue à la Reine qui est accompagnée de la Grande Duchesse et des principales Dames de sa Cour. Et de l’autre côté est la Noblesse Françoise qui avoit suivi le Marquis de Silleri Ambassadeur.

Cette estampe représente le mariage par procuration de Marie de Médicis et d’Henri IV, célébré en la cathédrale de Florence par le Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini le 5 octobre 1600. La reine, au centre, reçoit l’anneau nuptial de la main de son oncle, le grand-duc de Toscane Ferdinand Ier de Médicis. Autour d’eux sont réunis le marquis de Sillery, garde des sceaux et chancelier de France par l’action duquel le premier mariage d’Henri IV avec Marguerite de Valois a pu être annulé, Roger de Bellegarde, grand écuyer de France, porteur de la procuration, ainsi que, sur la droite, Christine de Lorraine, grande-duchesse de Toscane, et Éléonore, duchesse de Mantoue, la tante et la sœur de Marie de Médicis. Rubens, présent lors du mariage, s’est représenté lui-même derrière la reine, tenant une croix. Seul élément mythologique, Hyménée, dieu du mariage, apparaît au premier plan accompagné d’un chien, symbole de fidélité. Seul manque le futur époux, Henri IV, alors en guerre contre la Savoie. Le couple ne se rencontrera qu’à la fin de la guerre, le 9 décembre 1600, à Lyon. Pierre Paul Rubens est un peintre néerlandais né en 1577 et mort en 1640. C'est un peintre brabançon de l'école baroque flamande.Aidé par un atelier important, Rubens produit une œuvre considérable dans des genres divers. Il accepte de peindre un grand nombre de portraits mais, « d'instinct plus porté aux grand travaux qu'aux petites curiosités » comme il l'écrivait lui-même, il prête peu d'attention aux détails, qu'il ne peint pas en profondeur et dessine de quelques traits. En effet, il va travailler à un rythme extrêmement productif, réalisant 1403 peintures selon le catalogue de Michel Jaffé. Il réalise surtout de grands projets religieux, des peintures mythologiques, et d'importantes séries de peintures historiques. Prisé des Grands pour l'érudition et le charme de sa conversation, il joue également un rôle diplômatique important à son époque et jouit d'une position sociale sans égale chez les artistes de son temps. Jean-Marc Nattier, né le 17 mars 1685 et mort le 7 novembre 1766 est un peintre français talentueux et précoce, qui remporte à l'âge de quinze ans le premier prix de dessin de l'académie. Antoine Trouvain, né en 1640 et mort en 1707, est réputé pour être l'auteur d'une large série de portraits gravés de courtisans du règne de Louis XIV.
