Lyon, par les heretiers de Benoist Riguad, 1600, small in-8°, 116 x 74 mm, 460 pp + (4)nn pp (Conge à son livre) , bound in contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine. Vellum soiled and dusty, title page dustsoiled, some marginal stains at pages 9, 21 and 28. Small loss of paper at leaves 317/18 and 319/20 resulting in the loss of only a few letters, not interfering with legibility, some neat old underllining at some pages, nothwithstanding these defects still a good/fine copy. From the library of George Montagu esq. (probably from the 1806 sale of his library), with his copper engraved heraldic ex-libris tipped on at the first paste down. USTC n° 21170 ( Baudrier vol. 3 pp 454 ). A collection of tales entitled '' Printemps'' , in facetious contrast to the author's own name, which are set in a Poitevin country house. The first edition was from 1572 (in Paris ) .

Avec une dédicace ( ex-dono) de G. Yver à sa cousine Louise Vallée. L'auteur reprends le titre des éditions du 16e siècle. Il signe l'introduction de l'ouvrage comme ''G. Yver''. Il explique qu'il veut sortir son homonyme de l'obscurité par éditer une version moderne de l'ouvrage originale. Rare.

In-8°, 21 cm, 4 volumes uniform green leather bindings with a neo gothical central blind embossed plate (plaque à la fanfare). The central plaque witin blindstamped decorations and double gilt rectangle, raised decorated and gilt back, marbled edges, marbled endpapers. Very nice bindings, all four very well preserved with no faults. (Only some slight foxing at some pages). Superb bindings!.

Bound in contemporary vellum, both covers with blindtooled fillets and central ornament, with two brass clasps ( in good order). Joint of front cover neatly repaired. Pages 3/4 with a tear, no loss of paper or text. Very fine copy in a very well preserved contemporary binding with functioning clasps. Rare collection of the two first editions : USTC 1001603 & USTC 1001601. Especially the first work is very rare in first edition. USTC mentions only 4 copies ( 3 in Antwerp, 1 in Louvain). The author Michiel Zachmoorter was at first a parish priest in Ekkergem ( Flanders ) and became later a deacon in Ghendt. A staunch defender of the Roman Catholic church he became a leading figure of the Counter-Reformation in Flanders. In Ekkergem he reconstructed the ''Road to Calvary '' with all the Stations of the Cross on a 1/1scale with the original Jeruzalem walk. The first book is a spiritual manual with prayers to follow the lasts steps of Jesus Christ. This is the first edition; more than 20 were to follow. The second book was published in the same year and is a testimony to the revival of mysticism after the cruel wars of religion. It contains elements of the mediaeval Brabant and Rhineland mysticism with ''modern'' additions from the works of Benedictus of Canfeld ( Benet Canfield also formerly known as William Fitch ) and Juan de la Cruz (1542-1591).."
