Black and white photograph of riot police in West Berlin gathering against protesters, with debris from an Anti-Nuclear demonstration. This press photograph was taken by Wildenberg on 1st September 1981. 20.000 demonstrators had battled the police during a "Ban the Neutron Bomb" march. Arnaud de Wildenberg is a French press photographer. He worked with the Gamma Agency from 1979 to 1981, taking photographs from trouble spots around the world. The Gamma Agency was founded in 1966 and was absorbed by Hachette in 1999. Photograph in good, clean condition with agency details and description to the rear. 200 by 255mm (7Ÿ by 10 inches). WILLEBEEK LE MAIR, Henriette.

London Augener Ltd 1913 Première édition. Carton gris d'origine, dos en tissu bleu. Illustré tout au long par Willebeek le Mair. L'illustration est collée sur la première planche. L'emblème de l'éditeur figure au dos du livre. Les planches présentent quelques marques / assombrissements, et quelques marques sur la planche arrière, mais dans l'ensemble en très bon état. Inscriptions du propriétaire sur la première page de garde. Douze morceaux de piano adaptés aux enfants, avec une vignette en couleur de Le Mair pour chaque morceau. L'intérieur de l'ouvrage est propre. 28 pages. 30cm x 24cm. Henriette Willebeek Le Mair (1889-1966) était une illustratrice néerlandaise célèbre pour ses délicates illustrations à l'aquarelle dans les livres pour enfants. Née à Rotterdam, elle a commencé à publier des illustrations dès 1904 et a collaboré avec sa mère sur une série de livres en 1905. Son style, influencé par l'illustrateur français Louis-Maurice Boutet de Monvel - à qui elle rendait visite chaque année à partir de l'âge de 15 ans - combinait des lavis de couleurs sourdes avec des détails complexes, souvent encadrés par des cartouches décoratifs ovales ou en forme de rectangle arrondi.

The boards have a little marking / darkening to the boards, and a couple of marks to the rear board, but overall in very good condition. Owner's inscriptions to the front end paper. Twelve piano pieces adapted for children, with a colour vignette by Le Mair to each piece. Internally clean throughout. 28 pages. 30cm x 24cm. Henriette Willebeek Le Mair (18891966) was a Dutch illustrator celebrated for her delicate water colour illustrations in children's books. Born in Rotterdam, she began publishing illustrations as early as 1904 and collaborated with her mother on a series of books by 1905. Her style, influenced by French illustrator Louis-Maurice Boutet de Monvelwhom she visited annually from age 15combined muted colour washes with intricate details, often framed in decorative oval or rounded-rectangle cartouches. .

1896 Rare. Une affiche gravée accueillant le nouvel an 1896. Une femme nue représentant 1896 est à la barre d'un bateau, qui a dans son sillage les débris de 1895. Renversé sur carton blanc. Signé dans la planche A. Willette. En bas à droite se trouve 'Phg V. Michel'. Les débris de 1895 comprennent les mots «Panama» et «Arton». Celles-ci semblent concerner Émile Arton, un financier juif arrêté en novembre 1895 pour son rôle dans le financement de la crise de Panama. Adolph Willette était fortement antisémite. L'affiche est propre et bien rangée, sans marques importantes. Noir et blanc. Dans l'ensemble en très bon état. Taille de l'affiche : 610 x 460 mm (24 x 18 pouces). An engraved poster welcoming the new year of 1896. A naked woman representing 1896 is at the helm of a boat, which has the debris of 1895 in its wake. Tipped onto white backing cardboard. Signed in the plate A. Willette. To the bottom right is 'Phg V. Michel'. The debris of 1895 includes the words 'Panama' and 'Arton'. These appear to relate to Émile Arton, a Jewish financier who was arrested in November 1895 for his part in financing in the Panama crisis. Adolph Willette was strongly anti-Semitic. Poster is clean and tidy with no significant marks. Black and white. Overall in Very Good condition. Poster size: 610 x 460 mm (24 x 18 inches). Adolphe Léon Willette (18571926) was a French painter, illustrator, caricaturist, and lithographer, as well as an architect of the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret. Willette ran as an "anti-Semitic" candidate in the 9th arrondissement of Paris for the September 1889 legislative elections.

Édition limitée (26/250) Son illustration du 1er mai 1915 dans Fantasio dépeint un thème poignant lié à la guerre : « Vivre en beauté et mourir en libérant une belle âme », avec pour motifs les victimes de la guerre de 1914-1918. Il ne s'agit pas d'une page du magazine, mais d'une affiche imprimée ultérieurement et numérotée au crayon, sans mention de l'imprimeur ou de l'éditeur. Fantasio était un magazine satirique sur la Première Guerre mondiale lancé en août 1906 par Félix Juven. La seule trace que nous ayons trouvée de cette gravure est le résultat de la vente aux enchères de cet exemplaire. Les bords de la large marge sont légèrement abîmés, mais cela peut facilement être masqué par un encadrement. Une très belle pièce. La surface de l'image est de 26,5 cm x 41,5 cm. La feuille mesure 41,5 cm x 59 cm. Verso vierge. Adolphe Willette (1857-1926) est une figure éminente parmi les artistes bohèmes du Montmartre fin de siècle, réputé pour ses contributions en tant que peintre, illustrateur, caricaturiste et lithographe. On se souvient aujourd'hui particulièrement de lui pour ses caricatures de la Première Guerre mondiale.

Reprint. A limited edition (26/250) His 1 May 1915 illustration in Fantasio depicts a poignant wartime theme: "Living beautiful and dying by releasing a beautiful soul," featuring motifs of war casualties from the 1914-1918 conflict. This is not a page from the magazine, it was printed as a poster and is printed later, and numbered in pencil - but with no printer or publisher details. Fantasio was a First World War satirical magazine launched in August 1906 by Félix Juven. The only record of this print we can find is for the auction record of this copy. There is a little edgewear to the extensive margin, but this could be easily hidden in framing. A lovely piece. Image area is 26.5cm x 41.5cm. The sheet is 41.5cm x 59cm. Blank to verso. Adolphe Willette (1857-1926) stands as a prominent figure among the bohemian artists of fin-de-siècle Montmartre, renowned for his contributions as painter, illustrator, caricaturist, and lithographer. He is today particularly remembered for his caricatures from the first world war. .

WILLIAMS, Charles

London Thomas Tegg 1814 Première édition. Une seule feuille avec une séquence de huit scènes, disposées en deux rangées, chacune avec une inscription en dessous. Elles représentent une journée passée par le tsar à Londres. [1] Alexandre se tient près d'un lavabo et d'une coiffeuse (à gauche) dans une chambre à coucher meublée simplement. Un valet l'aide à enfiler son manteau. Les autres suivent de la même manière. Très bon état, propre, avec des couleurs attrayantes à la main. Les couleurs sont encore vives. Le verso est propre mais légèrement assombri. En insistant pour rester avec sa sur, il a dédaigné le prince régent, qui lui avait offert l'usage du palais de St James. Les incidents de la journée sont soigneusement adaptés pour contraster avec les habitudes du Régent. La plaque mesure 24,5 cm x 34,5 cm et la feuille 25 cm x 41 cm. First edition. A single sheet with a sequence of eight scenes, arranged in two rows, each with an inscription below it. They represent a day spent by the Tsar while in London. [1] Alexander stands by a combined wash-stand and dressing-table (left) in a simply furnished bedroom. A valet helps him to put on his coat. The rest follow in a similar fashion. Very good, clean condition, with attractive hand colouring. Still bright. Clean but slightly darkened to the verso. By insisting on staying with his sister, he slighted the Prince Regent, who had offered him the use of St James' Palace. The incidents of the day are carefully adapted to contrast with the habits of the Regent. The plate is 24.5cm x 34.5cm the sheet is 25cm x 41cm. WILLIAMS, John.

London: Ric. Chiswell at the Rose and Crown in St Paul's Church Yard 1688

pamphlet, disbound. Title, text, adverts (for Chiswell). "A Clear Proof" although written as through from a Protestant, was in fact a Catholic work, trying to disprove the certainty of Protestantism. This work is a rebuttal of that work. Apart from a little light foxing in a few places, the text is clean and crisp throughout and well bound together. John Williams (C16331709), was a Church of England minister, and later Bishop of Chichester (not to be confused with the Jesuit priest of the same period). He was very anti-Catholic and wrote a large number of pamphlets attacking Rome. He argued that the Popish plot was genuine, and was firmly opposed to the accession of James. His preferment as Bishop had to wait until the time of William and Mary. [ii], 1-41, [iii]. pp. Wing W2739

Collé sur une carte et placé sous un passe-partout de 21cm x 15.5cm. Utilisé comme carte (de Noël ?) et signé à l'intérieur. (2) Sans titre - Un chalet sous la neige. Collé sur une feuille de carte pliée, et utilisé comme carte cadeau (carte de Noël ?) signée par Williams, félicitant un ami pour la publication d'un tableau. 10cm x 11cm sur une carte de 14cm x 13cm. (3) "Monnow Bridge, Avonmouth" daté au crayon de Noël 1937. 16cm x 12cm. (4) Sans titre, Une maison Tudor datée de Noël 1937. 15cm x 11cm. (5) Sans titre. Un moulin à vent. daté de janvier 1938. 14cm x 9cm. (6) Sans titre, un bouquet de fleurs, sans date. 16,5cm x 10,5cm. Une belle collection. Dans l'ensemble en bon état, avec des marques dans les coins où elles ont été collées dans un album à un moment donné. Nous ne savons pas grand-chose sur l'artiste. Il y a une note au crayon sur l'un des cadres, qui indique qu'elle a fréquenté la Slade School of Art de 1931 à 1934, mais nous n'avons pas trouvé d'autres détails biographiques.

First edition. An attractive collection of six lino cuts by Kathleen Williams. These are: (1) "Kew" a boat, presumably on the Thames. 16cm x 9cm. Pasted onto card and laid under passe partout of 21cm x 15.5cm. used a a (christmas?) card and signed inside. (2) Untitled - A cottage under snow. Pasted onto a folded sheet of card, and used as a gift card (Christmas card?) by signed by Williams, congratulating a friend on the publication of a picture. 10cm x 11cm on card of 14cm x 13cm. (3) "Monnow Bridge, Avonmouth" dated Xmas 1937 in pencil. 16cm x 12cm. (4) Untitled, A Tudor house dated Xmas 1937. 15cm x 11cm. (5) Untitled. A Windmill. dated Jan 1938. 14cm x 9cm. (6) Untitled, a bunch of flowers, no date. 16.5cm x 10.5cm. A nice collection. Overall in good condition, with marking to the corners where they have been pasted into an album at some point. We can find little about the artist. There is a pencilled note on one of the frames, which states that she attended Slade School of Art from 1931-1934, but we can find no other biographical details. .

He purchased his commission in 1839, was an Ensign by 1842, a captain in 1846 and Lt Colonel in 1854. He served at Alma, Balaclava and Inkemann, as well as at the Siege of Sebastapol. He received the Crimea Medal with 4 bars, and retired by sale in 1855. Died in 1887. 200 by 130mm (7Ÿ by 5 inches).

First edition. Plain cream paper covers. Stapled. Half title, title, dedication with acknowledgments to the verso. An attractive frontis illustration by Grace Furneaux Wood. Although there are no titles to the text, the acknowledgment would suggest that this is a collection of poems, rather than one long poem. The cream covers have a mottling of foxing to them, a few marks, but still tidy. Internally clean and tidy, although many of the paragraphs of the poem have pencil lines highlighting them in the margins. Overall in sound condition. 24 pages. Mary Winter Were (later Hughes Were). published a number of predominately Roman Catholic poetry collections.

WINTGEN, Susi & Hildegard Bürger

Leipzig Verlag Enst Wunderlich 1947 Première édition. Livre pour enfants rare, avec des vers de Susi Wintgen et des illustrations de Hildegard Bürger. Chaque page donne des détails sur un fruit différent. Couverture en papier vert (légèrement décolorée mais saine) et douze pages. Chaque page a été colorée à la main à l'aquarelle. Nous n'avons pas trouvé d'autres exemplaires de cet ouvrage et nous ne savons donc pas s'il s'agit d'un livre de contours en noir et blanc destiné à être colorié par les enfants ou s'il a été vendu colorié. Nous soupçonnons la première hypothèse, car le coloriage est un peu erratique. Sur certaines pages, il est très habile, mais sur d'autres, il est un peu maladroit. Quoi qu'il en soit, il s'agit d'un charmant ouvrage pour enfants. 9,5 cm x 12 cm. Conforme à WorldCat / OCLC : 832526636. Aucun exemplaire en vente au moment du catalogage.

First edition. A scarce children's book, with verses by Susi Wintgen and illustrations by Hildegard Bürger. Each page gives details of a different fruit. Green paper covers (slightly faded but sound) and twelve pages. These have each been hand coloured in water colour. We cannot find any other copies of this work, so are unsure if this is a black and white outline book for children to colour, or was sold coloured. We suspect the former, as the colouring is a little erratic. To some pages it is quite skillful, but other pages are a little clumsy. Either way, it is a charming children's work. 9.5cm x 12cm. Nine leaves with original plant and animal studies. White heightened charcoal and partly pen and ink drawings, mostly dated 1887. The leaves are approximately 32.8 x 26 cm. The subjects are skilfully executed and include apricot blossom (white), cherry blossom (white), meadow ane mone white. - Fragrant Narcissus (white) & Portrait of a Young Girl. - Vine leaves, verso leaves of oak, linden, rose and pipe leaf. - 2 different plants. - Apple Blossom (White), White Daffodil, Flying Hearts (Red), Cockchafer. - Yellow daffodil, daisy. - Violet lilac, white lilac, lilac (light purple), forget-me-not (blue). - Violets and Cowslips. - There is a fascinating page entitled "Zoological Garden Leipzig" which includes sketches of goat, deer, stork, ostrich, ducks & two foot studies. A skilled and unusual collection of original sketches. A little darkening to the pages and slight edgewear, but still attractive. Richard Wintzer (1866 Nauendorf near Halle - Berlin 1952) was a skilled artist, dealing mainly in pencil / charcoal and who specialized in portaits.

WISLICENUS, Hermann

Munchen Franz Hanfstaengl 1860 Très bel exemplaire de ce tirage à l'albumine de Franz Hanfstaengl, qui reproduit une fresque présente dans la Galerie d'État prussienne du Palais impérial. La peinture originale a été réalisée par Hermann Wislicenus. Le format de la photographie est de 19 cm x 25 cm. La carte de support (avec les détails de la publication imprimés) est de 35,5 x 45 cm. La photographie est en excellent état, avec des tons sépia de bonne qualité. La carte de support est en bon état, mais elle présente un certain assombrissement et une légère usure des bords. Légères rousseurs au dos de la carte. Dans l'ensemble, il s'agit d'un excellent exemple de cette photographie rare. Franz Seraph Hanfstaengl (1804-1877) était un peintre, lithographe et photographe bavarois. Après avoir produit des reproductions lithographiques d'uvres d'art, il a également ouvert un studio de photographie à Munich en 1853. Bien que cette image ne soit pas datée, elle se situe vers 1860. Il a produit une série bien connue de photographies de citoyens éminents.

A very nice copy of this albumen print by Franz Hanfstaengl, which reproduces a fresco present in the Prussian State Gallery of the Imperial Palace. The original painting was by Hermann Wislicenus. The photograph size is 19cm x 25cm. The backing card (with printed publication details) is 35.5 x 45.cm. The photographg is in excellent condition, with good quality, sepia tones. The backing card is sound, but has some darkening, and has a little edgewear to it. Slight foxing to the rear of the board. Overall an excellent example of this rare photograph. Franz Seraph Hanfstaengl (18041877) was a Bavarian painter, lithographer, and photographer. After some time producing lithographic reproductions of art works, he also opened a photographic studio in Munich in 1853. Although this image is undated, it is around 1860. He produced a well known series of photographs of eminent citizens. .

Originally printed an published in 1921 by St Dominic's Press, Ditchling - this edition printed at Ditchling, copyright held by W.D. Woellwarth. The woodcuts were long misattributed to Eric Gill. (vi), 56 pp. Two woodcut plates, three woodcut figures in text. All by Desmond Macready Chute.

Malheureusement, la personne qui l'a collée l'a rognée de très près, et autour du titre (voir photo), de sorte qu'aucune information sur l'éditeur n'apparaît. Un père demande à son fils quel métier il veut faire. Le fils aime bien l'idée de devenir évêque, avec un bon salaire pour très peu de travail ! L'estampe est propre et bien rangée, et pourrait encore être joliment encadrée. L'estampe mesure 32 cm x 22,5 cm. La feuille de support mesure 36,5 cm x 27 cm Thomas Rowlandson (13 juillet 1757 - 21 avril 1827) était un artiste et caricaturiste anglais renommé de l'ère géorgienne, célèbre pour sa satire politique acerbe et ses observations sociales vives. Ses uvres, souvent paillardes et robustes, vont de la caricature individuelle à l'illustration de romans, de livres humoristiques et d'ouvrages topographiques. Il est considéré comme l'un des plus grands artistes graphiques britanniques, aux côtés de contemporains comme James Gillray. .

A nice copy of this caricature, pasted onto a backing sheet. Sadly, the person who pasted it trimmed it very close, and around the title (see photo) so no publisher information showing. A father asks his son what career he wants. The son rather likes the idea of becoming a Bishop, with good pay for very little work! The print is clean and tidy, and could still be nicely framed. Print is 32cm x 22.5cm. Backing sheet is 36.5cm x 27cm. Charles Williams produced a reduced size version of this engraving in 1806 (Also printed by Fores, this version was had the plate numbered in lower left corner: No. 1 Pl. 4.) Although clearly the same image, it is a totally new, reduced version, with noticeable differences in the engraving. George Woodward (1765-1809) was a successful caricaturist and humourist. Although he did etch some of his own plates most of his work was engraved by fellow caricaturists and in particular Thomas Rowlandson and Isaac Cruikshank. Rowlandson and Woodward were great friends, drinking companions and co-conspirators in satire. .

A couple of spots / marking to the cream, otherwise in very good condition. Dust wrapper is neatly clipped. Clean and tidy pale cloth. Internally very nice condition throughout.
