Paris Léon Willem, Paul Daffis 1874 Première édition. Cet ouvrage a été publié dans le cadre de la collection : « Documents rares ou inédits relatifs à l'histoire de Paris ». Cet exemplaire, imprimé sur du papier vergé des Vosges, fait partie d'une édition limitée à 350 exemplaires ; il contient 16 illustrations en marge du texte principal, issues de la reproduction de l'édition imprimée de 1484 du poème, attribué à Maistre Jehan Gerson (Jean Charlier de Gerson, célèbre théologien et chancelier de l'Université de Paris). Le cimetière des Saints-Innocents était l'un des lieux de sépulture les plus importants du Paris médiéval, et sa célèbre fresque représentant la Mort entraînant dans une danse des personnages issus de toutes les classes sociales fut l'une des premières et des plus influentes représentations du motif de la danse macabre en France. L'abbé Valentin Dufour (18261896) était un prêtre, historien et archéologue parisien. Il occupa le poste de bibliothécaire adjoint de l'Hôtel de Ville en 1866, puis celui de bibliothécaire du Chapitre de Notre-Dame à partir de 1867. Il fut également aumônier à la prison de Mazas à partir de 1871. Ces fonctions lui ont permis d'avoir un accès privilégié à d'importantes collections d'archives notamment à la bibliothèque de l'Hôtel de Ville avant qu'elle ne soit incendiée par les Communards, ce qui lui a permis de mener des recherches historiques approfondies. First edition. This work was published as part of the collection: "Documents rares ou inédits relatifs à l'Histoire de Paris". This copy is printed on vergé des Vosges paper, part of a limited run of 350 copies; with 16 out-of-text illustrations in the reproduction of the 1484 printed edition of the poem, attributed to Maistre Jehan Gerson (Jean Charlier de Gerson, the famous theologian and chancellor of the University of Paris). The Cemetery of the Holy Innocents (Cimetière des Saints-Innocents) was one of medieval Paris's most important burial grounds, and its famous mural showing Death leading figures from every social rank in a dance was one of the earliest and most influential depictions of the danse macabre motif in France. Abbé Valentin Dufour (18261896) was a Parisian priest, historian, and archaeologist. He served as deputy librarian of the Hôtel de Ville in 1866, then as librarian of the Chapter of Notre-Dame from 1867 onward. He also served as chaplain at the Mazas Prison starting in 1871. These positions allowed him privileged access to important archival collections notably the library of the Hôtel de Ville before it was burned down by the Communards, which allowed him to conduct in-depth historical research. The book is in half buckram with marbled boards. A little rubbing to the spine label only. Original soft covers retained inside. Paris Mercure de France 1920 Très bel exemplaire de ce premier livre de poésie à tirage limité. Un des 462 exemplaires sur Hollande von Gelder (cet exemplaire #462). La jaquette d'origine crème souple est propre et nette, sans marques. Les couvertures sont en feuillets souples jaunes propres. Il y a aussi un emballage de protection en glassine, qui est propre et en ordre, avec quelques entailles / déchirures fermées seulement. La pochette en verre semble être postérieure au livre lui-même. Georges Duhamel (1884 - 1966) était un auteur français, né à Paris. Duhamel a suivi une formation de médecin et, pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, il a été attaché à l'armée française. En 1920, il publie Confession de minuit, le premier d'une série mettant en scène l'anti-héros Salavin. En 1935, il est élu membre de l'Académie française. Il a été nommé vingt-sept fois pour le prix Nobel de littérature (mais ne l'a jamais obtenu). Il est également le père du musicologue et compositeur Antoine Duhamel. 106 pages. 190 x 150 mm.

A very nice copy of this first / limited edition book of poetry. One of 462 copies on Hollande von Gelder (this copy #462). Original soft cream dust wrapper, clean and tidy without marks. The covers are in clean yellow softback sheets. There is also a glassine protective wrapper, which is clean and tidy, with a little nicking / closed tears only. The glassine would appear to be later than the book itself. Georges Duhamel (1884 1966) was a French author, born in Paris. Duhamel trained as a doctor, and during World War I was attached to the French Army. In 1920, he published Confession de minuit, the first of a series featuring the anti-hero Salavin. In 1935, he was elected as a member of the Académie française. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature twenty-seven times (but never won). He was also the father of the musicologist and composer Antoine Duhamel. 106 pages. 190 by 150mm (7œ by 6 inches). .

Légère décoloration du dos et quelques très petites déchirures au niveau du dos. Sinon, impeccable. Intérieur en parfait état. Élévation et mort d'Armand Branche est un court récit. Il fait partie des écrits de guerre de Duhamel, dans lesquels le médecin-écrivain réfléchit sur la souffrance et l'élévation spirituelle des soldats de la Première Guerre mondiale. 46 pages. 27,5 cm x 18,5 cm.

Fractional fading to the spine and a couple of very small splits to the spine. Otherwise spotless. Inside in immaculate condition. Élévation et mort d'Armand Branche is a short narrative. It belongs to Duhamel's wartime writings, where the physician-writer reflects on the suffering and spiritual elevation of World War I soldiers. 46 pages. 27.5cm x 18.5cm. .

Contient : 1 - 52, 6 janvier - 29 décembre 1899, relié ensemble avec : 1-52, 5 janvier 1900 - 28 décembre 1900. La plupart des illustrations (certaines en couleur) sont de Steinlen. Chaque numéro compte 8 pages. Chaque numéro comporte une première page en couleur, plusieurs pages de texte, puis une double page illustrée, l'une en noir et blanc, l'autre (généralement une chanson ou un texte de poésie) en couleur. Les pages sont vieillies mais en bon état. La reliure est frottée sur les bords, en particulier sur la planche arrière. 40 x 28 cm. Un article lourd - près de 5 kg emballé. Fondé à Paris le 19 novembre 1879 par Auguste Dumont, Gil Blas était un quotidien connu pour son ton vif, littéraire et parfois osé. Le journal tire son nom et son inspiration du roman picaresque d'Alain-René Lesage, Histoire de Gil Blas de Santillane. Gil Blas était également connu pour son supplément hebdomadaire illustré, qui contribuait à sa popularité et inspirait des publications similaires à l'étranger, comme le magazine satirique allemand Simplicissimus.

Two full years (104 issues) of the weekly colour illustrated supplement for Gil Blas. Hardback binding with buckram spine and marbled boards. Contains: 1 - 52, 6 January - 29 December 1899, BOUND TOGETHER WITH: 1-52, 5 January 1900 - 28 December 1900. Most illustrations (some colour) by Steinlen. Each individual issue is 8 pages. Each has a coloured front page, several pages of text, then a double illustrated page, with one in black and white, and the other (usually a song or poetry lyric) in colour. Pages age toned but in good shape otherwise. Binding rubbed at edges, particularly to the rear board. overall good. 40 x 28 cm. A heavy item - almost 5kg packed. Founded in Paris on November 19, 1879, by Auguste Dumont, Gil Blas was a daily newspaper known for its lively, literary, and sometimes risqué tone. The paper drew its name and inspiration from Alain-René Lesage's picaresque novel Histoire de Gil Blas de Santillane. Gil Blas was also known for its illustrated weekly supplement, which contributed to its popularity and inspired similar publications abroad, such as the German satirical magazine Simplicissimus. .

325 fascinating b/w photographs giving a unique and intimate insight in to the Republican and Democratic conventions of 1968. In publisher's blue/green cloth with gilt, inside its dust jacket. Very good condition dust jacket, with lightly bumped corners (one has a very small closed tear shown in photographs). Book itself is in a fine condition. David Douglas Duncan was an American photojournalist renowned for his photographs of combat situations in the Vietnam War, during which he was an officer in the Marine Corps. His camera of choice was the Nikon F. This was Nikon's first SLR camera, and one of the most advanced cameras of its day. 240 pages. 360 x 285 mm (14Πx 11Πinches).

First edition. Grey card covers. Cream paper, stapled. A very nice copy of this booklet. The covers have a touch of edge wear only. A couple of light marks, but overall a clean copy. Neat owner's name to the front end paper. Staples are a little rusting, but overall clean and tidy copy. 14 pages. Dunlop was the founder of the "Fellowship of Meditation" an organisation to encourage Christian Meditation which is still going.

Celle-ci comprenait 150 illustrations accompagnant « Le cimetière marin », l'uvre la plus célèbre de Valéry. L'affiche est en bon état, propre, mais présente un petit trou en haut à gauche et un pli dans le coin inférieur droit (voir photos). Verso vierge. Objet rare, nous n'avons trouvé aucun autre exemplaire à vendre au moment du catalogage.

First edition. A poster from the Paul Valéry museum in Séte, celebrating an exhibition of Pierre Duplan's work held at the museum in 1976. This contained 150 illustrations to accompany "Le cimetiére Marin" which was Valéry's most famous work. The poster is in good, clean condition, but has a small hole to the top left, and creasing to the bottom right corner of the poster (see photographs). Blank to verso. A scarce item, we can find no other copies for sale at the time of cataloguing. 60cm x 45cm. .

Paris / Orléans De J. Baudry & Cie. / Librairie Herluison 1889 Première édition. Ouvrage rare sur les maladies de la vigne. Reliure récente avec dos en cuir noir (sans étiquette) et plats marbrés. Papiers de garde frais. Les couvertures souples vertes d'origine sont reliées. Elles sont assombries sur les bords et quelque peu marquées. L'ouvrage lui-même est en bon état, propre, avec un léger assombrissement des bords et une petite marque sur les pages vers la fin du livre. 23,5 cm x 15 cm. 64 pages. Conforme à WorldCat / OCLC : 491584012. À partir de 1864, le "grand flétrissement du vin français" causé par l'introduction du phylloxéra, un insecte ressemblant à un puceron originaire d'Amérique du Nord, a décimé les vignobles français. À la fin des années 1870, 40 % des vignobles français avaient disparu. La solution consistait à greffer des boutures résistantes au mildiou à partir de ceps de vigne américains, ce qui fut accepté tout au long des années 1880. C'est dans cette atmosphère que Duplessis fournit son résumé des maladies du vin et de leurs solutions.

These are darkened to the edges and somewhat marked. The work itself is in good, clean condition, with just fractional darkening to the edges and a little marking to the pages towards the end of the book. 23.5cm x 15cm. 64 pages. From 1864 onwards, the "Great French Wine Blight" caused by the introduction of grape phylloxera, an aphid-like insect native to North America, decimated the French vineyards. By the late 1870's 40% of French vineyards had been lost. The solution was to graft blight resistant cuttings from American vine stock, which gained acceptance throughout the 1880's. It was into this atmosphere, that Duplessis was providing his résume of maladies of wine and their solutions. .

Un très bel exemplaire d'un calendrier perpétuel, accompagné d'une jolie planche dépliante présentant le calendrier lunaire pour la même période. Couverture souple d'origine marbrée bleu/vert. La couverture marbrée est manifestement de fabrication assez rudimentaire, et le marbrage a été réalisé à la va-vite, de sorte qu'une partie est bleu/vert, tandis qu'une autre est simplement tachetée de bleu. Nous soupçonnons qu'il s'agit du coin qui était tenu lorsque le fabricant de papier a trempé la feuille, ce qui est assez intéressant à voir dans un livre, mais qui a donné l'impression d'une tache sur la couverture avant, où le mélange est plus bleu que vert ! Frottements sur le bord du dos et quelques traces. Pas de titres. Intérieur propre et clair, sans traces ni noircissements significatifs. On note une légère usure des bords avec une très légère perte sur les 9 premières pages. Celle-ci est tout à fait marginale et ne s'étend jamais au texte. La carte lunaire est détachée (probablement telle qu'elle a été publiée) et il n'est pas certain qu'elle ait jamais été attachée. Le calendrier est utilisable jusqu'en l'an 2000 (désolé, trop tard pour l'utiliser maintenant, et pas si perpétuel que ça après tout). Après la préface, la publicité (une demi-page avec une jolie vignette en bas) vante des cartes et des plans géographiques et historiques, dont une vaste carte de la France de 175 feuilles, ainsi que des gravures de calendrier ornées montées sur carton avec des bordures gravées complexes. Ces dernières étaient proposées sous verre et encadrées en doré. La reliure s'ouvre à quelques endroits, mais tout est encore solidement attaché. L'ouvrage est complet avec 86 pages comme prévu. Bien qu'il ne soit pas paginé, il contient une page de garde (titre et préface), soit 3 feuillets (c'est-à-dire 6 pages). Viennent ensuite 5 feuillets non numérotés de tableaux et 35 feuillets numérotés de tableaux (40 au total, soit 80 pages). Au total, 86 pages. 24 cm x 17,5 cm. Conforme à WorldCat / OCLC : 401590591. Cela indique un seul exemplaire en bibliothèque (à Lyon).

First edition. A very nice copy of a perpetual calendar, with a lovely, folding plate showing the lunar calendar for the same period. Original blue / green marbled soft covers. The marbled covers are obviously fairly cheap, and the marbling done quickly, so part is blue / green, and part just mottled blue. We suspect that this was the corner that was being held when the paper maker dipped the sheet, which is quite interesting to see in a book, but which has led to the impression of staining to the front cover, where the mix is more blue than green! Rubbing to the spine edge and a touch of marking. No titles. Internally clean and bright, with no significant marking or darkening. There is a touch of edgewear with very slight loss to the first 9 leaves. A couple of pages have some staining to the the corners. This is quite marginal, and never extends to the text. The lunar chart is loose, (probably as issued) and it is not clear if it was ever attached. The calendar is usable up to the year 2000 (sorry, too late to use now, and not so perpetual after all). Following the preface, the advertisement (half a page with an attractive vignette below), promotes geographical and historical maps and charts, including an expansive 175 sheet map of France, and ornate calendar prints mounted on cardstock with intricate engraved borders. These latter were offered glazed and framed in gilt. The binding falls open in a couple of places, but is all still firmly attached. Complete with 86 pages as called for. Although unpaginated, the work contains an end paper, (title & preface), (3 leaves, i.e. 6 pages). Followed by 5 unnumbered leaves of tables and 35 numbered leaves of tables (40 in total, i.e. 80 pages) In total 86 pages. 24cm x 17.5cm. Conforms to WorldCat / OCLC: 401590591. France S.P. 1925 Portrait original au pastel, signé et daté de 1925, représentant une jeune femme coiffée d'un turban et portant des boucles d'oreilles pendantes. Un portrait attrayant, clairement dans le style art déco des années 1920. Il s'agit manifestement d'un artiste talentueux. Sur papier d'art épais. Le filigrane montre des clés croisées couronnées avec les initiales GS (fabricant de papier non identifié). Le tiers inférieur de la feuille présente quelques légères pliures, mais le portrait reste néanmoins attrayant. Une légère empreinte d'un ancien passe-partout est visible. Il est désormais maintenu sans fixation sous un passe-partout en carton. 48 cm x 31 cm.

An original pastel portrait, signed and dated 1925, depicting a young woman in a turban and wearing drop earrings. An attractive portrait, and clearly in the art deco style of the 1920's. Obviously a skilled artist. On heavy chain art paper The watermark shows crowned crossed keys with countermark initials GS (unidentified papermaker). There is a touch of light creasing to the lower third of the sheet, otherwise an attractive portrait. Slight imprint of old passe partout is showing. Now loosely held under card passe partout. 48cm x 31cm. .

À l'intérieur, les pages sont modérément noircies, car imprimées sur du papier de qualité médiocre. Sinon, l'état général est bon et propre. Paris Éditions les uvres françaises 1946 Numéro spécial du magazine Chantecler en hommage à Georges Merry, auteur-compositeur et résistant, décédé après avoir été déporté pendant l'occupation. Un bel ensemble de textes en prose, de poèmes et de satires, chacun accompagné d'un portrait très art déco de l'auteur réalisé par le caricaturiste Lebon. Couverture en feutre bleu estampée d'un texte argenté. Dans l'ensemble, en très bon état, propre, mais avec des frottements et une perte de feutre sur le bord supérieur de la couverture arrière. Un faux sceau de cire (sur plastique) est attaché à une languette de velours qui pend du volume. Intérieur propre et attrayant dans l'ensemble. Une uvre Art déco très stylisée, remplie des portraits saisissants de Lebon. Décoloration / brunissement de la page de contenu, sinon propre et soigné dans l'ensemble. Une grande partie du matériel traite de la Seconde Guerre mondiale et de l'occupation. 50 pages. 34,5 cm x 27 cm. André Lebon (1918-1996) était un caricaturiste et journaliste français. Il s'est surtout fait connaître par ses caricatures d'acteurs de théâtre et de personnalités politiques.

Special issue of the magazine Chantecler in homage to Georges Merry, songwriter and resistance fighter, who died in after being deported during the occupation. A lovely collection of prose, poems and satire, each accompanied by a very art deco portrait of the author by the caricaturist Lebon. Blue felt covers embossed with silver text. Generally in very good, clean condition, but with rubbing and felt loss to the top edge of the rear cover. There is a faux wax seal (on plastic) attached to a velvet tab which hangs from the volume. Internally clean and attractive throughout. A very stylised Art Deco work full of Lebon's striking portraits. Offsetting / browning to the contents page, Otherwise clean and tidy throughout. Much of the material is dealing with the second world war and the occupation. 50 pages. 34.5cm x 27cm. André Lebon (1918-1996) was a French caricaturist and journalist. He became known primarily for his caricatures of theatre actors and political personalities. .

La Chronique de Castleford, également connue sous le nom de Boke of Brute, est une importante chronique en vers du moyen anglais attribuée à Thomas Castleford. Composée au début du XIVe siècle, c'est l'une des plus longues chroniques anglaises de l'époque, totalisant près de 40 000 lignes en onze livres et un prologue. L'uvre n'a survécu que dans un seul manuscrit, aujourd'hui conservé à la Bibliothèque d'État et universitaire de Göttingen, en Allemagne. Castleford's Chronicle, also known as the Boke of Brute, is a major Middle English verse chronicle attributed to Thomas Castleford. Composed in the early 14th century, it is one of the longest English chronicles of its time, totaling nearly 40,000 lines in eleven books and a prologue. The work survives in a single manuscript, now held at the State and University Library in Göttingen, Germany. The chronicle tells the history of Britain from its legendary origins, beginning with Albina and her sisters and the arrival of Brutus (a foundational myth popularized by Geoffrey of Monmouth), up to the reign of Edward II in the early 14th century. .

Différentes versions de cette image (avec des couples se disputant les pantalons) ont été publiées par différents éditeurs de 1820 jusqu'au début du vingtième siècle. Malgré cela, il s'agit d'une caricature rare et éphémère, et il n'y a pas d'exemplaires disponibles au moment de la mise en vente.

Different versions of this image (with couples fighting over the trousers) appeared by different publishers from 1820 until the early twentieth century. Despite this, it is a scarce and ephemeral caricature item, and there are no copies available at the time of listing .

Une réinterprétation linéaire d'un modèle expressionniste. Édition limitée (18/20). Une grotesque séduisante, dont le style rappelle celui de Brueghel. Il s'agit d'une belle copie / réinterprétation d'une gravure réalisée par Nicolas Eekman. Joliment gravée, sous un passe-partout rouge foncé et un cadre en bois foncé à liseré doré. Le cadre présente quelques légères traces d'usure sur les bords. Sinon, l'ensemble est en excellent état. La plaque mesure 23 cm x 15,5 cm. Le cadre mesure 33 cm x 24 cm.

Limited edition (18/20). An attractive grotesque, similar in style to Breughel. This is a good copy / reinterpretation of an engraving done by Nicolas Eekman. Nicely engraved, under deep red passepartout and a dark wood gilt lined frame. The frame has a little rubbing to the edges. Otherwise all in excellent condition. plate is 23cm x 15.5cm. Frame is 33cm x 24cm. .

An attractive copy. Printed in red and black on paper made in Ireland. Published by Elizabeth Corbet Yeats at the house of Evelyn Gleeson in Dundrum. [1], 55, [1] pp. 215 x 150 mm (8œ x 6 inches). Elizabeth Corbet Yeats was the sister of W.B. Yeats. She was a founder of Dundrum Press. The press published 11 books. She worked alongside Evelyn Gleeson, an English embroiderer. Relations were strained, and the press ended in 1908. Elizabeth (known as Lolly) went on to found Cuala Press with W.B. Gleeson continued Dun Emer after the split, and after her death it continued until 1964.

He served as minister and teacher in Leeds, and in 1871 moved to Hull where he also became superintendent of the local Jewish schools. He translated several of the books of the Old Testament.
