Munchen Braun & Schneider 1908 Première édition. Un livre pour enfants allemand rare, exposant les opinions racistes de l'époque. Reliure cartonnée originale de couleur moutarde avec vignette d'illustration et texte sur le premier plat. Le papier des planches est collé sur une toile moutarde. Il y a une tache rouge sur environ la moitié de la couverture avant, et des bulles d'humidité sur la couverture arrière. L'ouvrage reste néanmoins présentable. L'intérieur est propre et bien rangé, avec juste un peu de marquage / assombrissement sur les pages. 40 pages. Illustrations en couleur tout au long de l'ouvrage. Nous vendons cet ouvrage en tant qu'objet historique authentique, et non en tant qu'approbation des opinions ou de la langue qu'il contient. 33cm x 25cm.

First edition. A scarce German children's book, exhibiting the racist opinions of the time. Original mustard hardback with vignette illustration and text to the front board. Paper on the boards are pasted over a mustard cloth. There is a red stain to about half of the front cover, and bubbling from old damp to the rear board. Still presentable though. Internally clean and tidy throughout, with just a touch of marking / darkening to the pages. 40 pages. Coloured illustrations throughout. We are selling this as a genuine historical item, and not as an endorsement of the views or language within. 33cm x 25cm. .

Sur un tirage limité à 255 exemplaires. Couverture illustrée avec une estampe signée par Carzou, reproduite par gaufrage doré et pailleté sur le coffret en toile noire de l'éditeur, dans une chemise en toile noire. Très bon état de conservation. 20 gravures sur cuivre "à la pointe sèche et au rubis" : frontispice, 9 planches à pleine page portant le timbre sec de l'éditeur sous la planche, 6 planches de plus petit format mais à pleine page et 4 planches in-texte. Exemplaire 62 signé par Carzou à la mine de plomb & avec le cachet gaufré / cachet sec de sa signature, avec une suite d'illustrations en noir. A beautiful copy of this illustrated work. One of only 50 on tinted Arches paper with an additional suite of the illustrations to the rear. From a total limitation of 255 copies. illustrated slipcase cover with a print signed by Carzou, reproduced by gilt and glitter embossing on the black cloth publisher's slipcase, in a black cloth folder. Very good clean condition. 20 copper engravings "à la pointe sèche et au rubis": frontispiece, 9 full-page plates bearing the publisher's dry stamp under the plate, 6 smaller-format but full-page plates and 4 in-text plates. Copy 62 signed by Carzou in graphite & with the embossed stamp / dry stamp of his signature, with a suite of illustrations in black. These are the same as the illustrations throughout the work, but do not have the embossed stamp on them. Unpaginated. 400 by 300mm (15Ÿ by 11Ÿ inches). A lovely copy .

An attractive volume of Percy Society tracts bound together. Half leather with black label and gilt titles. Marbled boards. Contains; Edward F. Rimbault (Editor). Cock Lorrell's Bote: A Satirical Poem. From an unique copy printed by Winkyn de Worde. No 30 of the Percy Society's publications. Feb. 1843. Original paper cover (quite darkened and stained). The rest is in very good condition. 15 pages. James Orchard Halliwell (Editor). Westward for Smelts, an early Collection of Stories. Number 78 of the Percy Society's publications. September 1848. Cover, half title, title, list of Percy Society patrons, preface, original title, introduction, 63 pages. A little darkening but overall in very good condition. Edward F. Rimbault. A knight's Conjuring: Done in earnest, discovered in Jest by Thomas Dekker from the original tract printed in 1607. Percy Society publication number 21. May 1842. Original paper covers, half title, title, list of Percy Society patrons, preface, original title, introduction, xvi, vi, 100 pages. A little darkening to the title, otherwise in very good condition. 200 x 130 mm (7Ÿ x 5 inches). The Percy Society was a short lived British text publication society. It was founded in 1840 and collapsed in 1852. The Society was a scholarly collective, aimed at publishing limited-edition books of rare poems and songs. The president was Lady Braybrooke, and the twelve founding members of the committee included John Payne Collier, Thomas Crofton Croker, Thomas Wright, James Orchard Halliwell (treasurer), Charles Mackay, Edward Francis Rimbault (secretary) and William Chappell. Later members included William Sandys, and Robert Bell.

RIMMEL, Eugène

Paris E. Rimmel Ltd 1895 Un ravissant ensemble d'emballages originaux en chromolithographie découpés à l'emporte-pièce, provenant de la société Rimmel Ltd. Ces emballages étaient destinés à des savons et des parfums. La collection, composée de treize pièces et de trois initiales, est légèrement collée sur un carton de support et est actuellement encadrée sous verre dans cinq cadres récents en bois foncé. Chacune des étiquettes est neuve et en parfait état d'origine. Les couleurs et les motifs sont éclatants, et l'or brille toujours de mille feux. La décoration Art nouveau, composée de chérubins et de fleurs, évoque l'esprit fin de siècle. Chaque cadre mesure 26 cm x 34 cm. Les cinq feuilles peuvent être retirées des cadres vitrés avant l'expédition. Le contenu détaillé est le suivant : (1) Un grand emballage de « Poudre de Riz » (10 cm x 20 cm). En dessous se trouve une bande décorative dorée à motifs de feuilles d'acanthe de 5 cm x 32 cm. (2) Deux étiquettes de parfum : « Clove Carnation » et « White Heliotrope ». Elles mesurent 14 cm x 7 cm. Entre les deux se trouve une étiquette portant les initiales « ER. » pour Eugène Rimmel. Celle-ci aurait servi à sceller la bande située en dessous (détails identiques à ceux de l'article 1). (3) Une enveloppe ayant contenu un sachet de fleurs parfumées à l'illet cloué. 9 cm x 12 cm. Accompagnée de deux cachets à initiales et d'une bande décorative. (4) Un grand paquet individuel de « Parfum Concentré », 16 cm x 19 cm. En excellent état. Enfin, (5) comprend cinq paquets de « poudre de riz » aux parfums de rose blanche, d'illet cloué, naturel, de mimosa et de violette des bois. Chacun mesure 8 cm x 9 cm. Ces articles peuvent être datés d'environ 1895. Rimmel est devenue E. Rimmel Ltd en 1889 après le décès de son fondateur. Le style Art nouveau est très « fin de siècle ». Les étiquettes sont toutes en excellent état, propres et sans plis. Une très belle collection.

A lovely set of original die cut chromolithograph packaging from Rimmel ltd. These are for soaps and fragrance. The collection of thirteen items and three initials are lightly tipped onto backing card, and are currently framed under glass in five recent dark wood frames. Each of the wrappers is unused and in perfect original condition. The colour and decoration are bright, and the gold is still glowing. The art nouveau decoration of cherubs and flowers is redolent of the fin de siecle. Each frame is 26cm x 34cm. The five sheets can be removed from the glass frames before shipping. Detailed contents are: (1) A large Poudre de Riz (rice powder) package. (10cm x 20cm). Below is a gilt acanthus leaf banding strip of 5cm x 32cm. (2) Two fragrance labels. Clove Carnation and White Heliotrope. These are 14cm x 7cm. In between is an initial label of ER. for Eugéne Rimmel. This would have been used to seal down the band which is below (details as per item 1). (3) An envelope which held a sachet of Clove Carnation scented flowers. 9cm x 12cm. Along with two initial seals and a banding strip. (4) A large solo packet for Parfum Concentré 16cm x 19cm. In excellent condition. Finally, (5) has five packets for poudre de Riz in White Rose, Clove Carnation, natural, Mimosa and Wood Violet. Each are 8cm x 9cm. These items can be dated to circa 1895. Rimmel became E. Rimmel ltd in 1889 after the death of it's founder. The art nouveau styling is very fin de siecle The labels are all in excellent, clean, uncreased condition. A very nice collection.

RINGEL

Paris Cadart 1879 Une très belle gravure de Ringel représentant sa statue présentée lors du salon de 1879. Il semble qu'il s'agisse d'une grande copie papier, sans aucun détail sur l'imprimeur ou le graveur. (Il y a eu une édition plus petite, qui avait des détails de publication. Très bon état. Il y a un seul petit trou de ver à quelques centimètres en dessous de la zone gravée. Légers plis sur les bords. La feuille de papier encollé mesure 48 cm x 32 cm, la zone gravée 26,5 cm x 19,5 cm. Il semble que Ringel ait présenté la statue au salon et qu'elle ait été détruite à la fin de l'exposition. Jean-Désiré Ringel, dit Ringel d'Illzach (1849-1916) était un sculpteur et graveur franco-alsacien.

A very nice engraving by Ringel showing his statue which was presented during the 1879 salon. This would appear to be a large paper copy, without any printer or engraver details. (There was a smaller issue, which had publication details to it. Very good condition. There is a single tiny worm hole a few centimetres below the engraved area. Slight creasing to the edges. Laid paper sheet size 48cm x 32cm, engraved area 26.5cm x 19.5cm. It seems that Ringel presented the statue at the salon, and that it was destroyed at the end of the exhibition. Jean-Désiré Ringel, known as Ringel d'Illzach (18491916) was a French-Alsatian sculptor and engraver. .

First edition. Pamphlet, disbound. Title with printer's vignette, "vote of the town", text. There is an owner's inscription on the title leaf. (Isaac Porter from Wm. Porter). There is some browning and foxing throughout (heavier towards the end); the first and last leaf are detached, the rest of the pamphlet loosely bound together. 19, [i] pp. 205 x 130 mm (8 x 5 inches). Orations were given annually in Boston, often called "municipal Orations"; typically two or more addresses were given. The impetus for the tradition of municipal orations in Boston stemmed from an act passed at a town meeting in March 1783, when it was decided that the annual celebration of commemorating the Boston Massacre of March 5, 1770, be replaced with a yearly Independence Day celebration. The local newspaper reported following this oration: "The Repertory tells us that Mr. Ritchie delivered an excellent Oration. So much the better for Mr. Ritchie! The Oration was doubtless federal, else it could not have been excellent, and it must have abused the President, else it could not have been federal, and it was delivered on the anniversary of independence, a fit federal occasion for abusing the government of our choice! " (American Mercury, 11 August 1808, 2)

Paris 1930 Epreuve d'artiste originale signée. Cette uvre a été présentée dans le cadre d'une exposition et porte les détails au dos du simple cadre en bois. Taille de l'image : 320 x 260 mm. Dans cadre et sous verre. Taille totale dans le cadre : 400 x 460 mm. Marie Thérèse Robert était étudiante en Art Déco à l'Académie Julian à Paris au début des années 1930. L'Académie existe toujours aujourd'hui et s'appelle désormais ESAG Penninghen.

Signed original artist's proof. This work was submitted as part of an exhibition, and bears the details to the back of the simple wooden frame. Image size: 320 x 260 mm (12œ x 10Œ inches). Within frame and under glass. Total size in frame: 400 x 460 mm. Marie Therese Robert was an Art Deco student at 'Academie Julian' in Paris in the early 1930's. The Academie still exists today, and is now known as ESAG Penninghen.

Vice-President of the International Academy of Pharmaceutical History. The Therabel Collection is continually updated, but comprises over 650 posters - from more than 17 different countries - on the history of Pharmacology, from 1840 to the present day.

ROBERTS, David.

London F.G. Moon 1842 David Roberts, (1796-1864) was a successful Scottish artist, in 1838 traveled throughout the Middle East and produced many paintings. On his return to England, he and lithographer Louis Haghe published a hand-coloured six volume set of his works covering Egypt and Nubia and the Holy Land.

A lovely copy of this tinted lithograph, produced by the skilled lithographer Louis Haghe and published by F.G. Moon. The publisher's details are printed in the plate, and state that it was printed 1st December 1842. Framed in a more recent dark green passe partout and dark hardwood frame. The visible area of the lithograph is 540 x 380 mm (21Πby 15 inches). It will be slightly larger under the passe partout - the sheet size is 23 5/8" x 17 1/4". Frame size is 720 x 560 mm (28Πx 22 inches). If sold online will be sold without frame.

ROBERTS, Marcus

London Tymsder Publishing, 2001

First edition in dust jacket. In the 1820's and '30s the London Jewish community was distressed by the number of destitute Jews living on the streets or in the workhouses. To deal with the problem groups of Jewish East Enders established three charities that later merged and became 'Nightingale'. Marcus Roberts is a researcher in to Anglo-Jewish history, and has been widely published. 112 pp. 250 x 180 mm (9Ÿ x 7 inches). Fine dust jacket and fine book. This copy bears the following dedication to the FFEP: Presented to Ms Fay Weldon CBE by Nightingale at the Guildhall Dinner 22nd October 2001.

France S.P. 1915 Première édition. Boîtier cartonné avec des planches gravées. Édition limitée à 125 exemplaires seulement (il s'agit de l'exemplaire n° 113). Chaque planche est signée, les titres sont écrits à la main au crayon par Robida, au pied de la carte : "Les Evacués italiens", "Départ des territoriaux", "Le dernier jour du Pont de Compiègne", "les Fugitifs", "Le Prisonnier", "Convoi belge échappé de Namur", "Le Premier Taube !". L'étui crème comporte un feuillet de titre collé, avec une vue d'un soldat sur un quai regardant un pont détruit. Les planches sont légèrement assombries et marquées, et le dos de la pochette est assez endommagé. Il a été renforcé à l'intérieur avec du ruban adhésif d'archivage. Les attaches d'origine sont présentes. À l'intérieur, l'uvre se trouve dans une chemise en carton rigide (légèrement assombrie) avec un titre montrant des soldats défilant devant une cathédrale. Elle est signée au crayon par Robida. Le premier rassemblement est constitué des feuilles de texte (4 pages, dont trois sont imprimées) avec l'image de la première planche reproduite. Les bords sont assombris, mais l'ouvrage est propre. Les sept planches sont en très bon état, chacune d'entre elles étant accompagnée d'un papier de garde. Une pièce rare d'illustration de la première guerre mondiale. Compiègne, dans l'Oise, était la ville natale de Robida. Il ne pouvait pas savoir, lorsqu'il créa cette uvre, que Compiègne jouerait un rôle profondément symbolique et stratégique en tant que lieu de l'armistice qui mit fin au conflit. La célèbre signature de l'armistice a eu lieu dans la forêt de Compiègne. La ville était proche du front occidental et a été le théâtre de nombreux mouvements de troupes et de bombardements. Albert Robida (1848-1926) est un illustrateur, caricaturiste, lithographe et romancier français, célèbre à la fois comme artiste et comme commentateur social visionnaire de la Belle Époque. En 1880, Robida a cofondé et publié La Caricature.

First edition. Hardback slipcase with engraved plates. Limited edition of only 125, (this is copy #113). Each plate is signed, the titles are hand written in pencil by Robida, at the foot of the card: "Les Evacués italiens", "Départ des territoriaux", "Le dernier jour du Pont de Compiègne", "les Fugitifs", "Le Prisonnier", "Convoi belge échappé de Namur", "Le Premier Taube!" The cream slipcase has a pasted on title sheet, with a view of soldier on a quayside looking at a destroyed bridge. A little darkening and marking to the boards, and the spine of the folder is quite damaged. This has been reinforced from the inside with archival tape. Original closure ties are present. Inside, the work is in a stiff card folder (slightly darkened) with a title showing soldiers marching past a cathedral. This is signed by Robida in pencil. The first gather is the text sheets (4 pages, three of which are printed) with the image from the front board replicated. This is darkened to the edges, but clean. The seven plates are in lovely condition, each with a tissue guard. A scarce piece of world war one illustration. Compiègne, in the Oise department, was Robida's home town. He could not have known when he created this work that Compiègne would play a deeply symbolic and strategic role as the site of the armistice that ended the conflict. The famous signing of the armistice was in the Forest of Compiègne. The town was close to the Western Front and saw many troop movements and bombardments. Albert Robida (18481926) was a French illustrator, caricaturist, lithographer, and novelist, celebrated both as an artist and as a visionary social commentator of the Belle Époque period. In 1880, Robida co-founded and edited La Caricature.

Imprimé sur divers papiers de luxe de différentes couleurs, qui débuta à l'occasion de la reconstruction du Vieux Paris le long de la Seine pour l'Exposition universelle de 1900, calligraphie à l'ancienne, initiales et vignettes en relief, nombreux auteurs dont Pierre Loti et Anatole France, nombreuses illustrations sur bois. Le deuxième numéro est entièrement illustré par Robida. 1 : Gallo-romain ; 2 : Mérovingien ; 3 : Carolingien ; 4 : Saint-Louis ; 5 : Tour de Nesle (XIVe siècle) ; 6 : Le Moyen Âge sous forme de manuscrits enluminés ; 7 : Rabelais François 1e ; 8 : Henri IV ; 9 : Théophraste Renaudot ; 10 : Molière ; 11 : La Régence ; 12 : Marie-Antoinette ; 13 : L'Ami du peuple ; 14 : Bonaparte. Les couvertures en toile de jute sont assombries et un peu frottées. Il y a des titres dorés et un sceau rouge avec l'écusson de Paris. Il y a des restes de liens en cuir. Elles restent néanmoins attrayantes. Les numéros individuels sont en bon état, propres, avec juste un peu d'usure sur les bords de quelques feuilles. 31cm x 23cm.

First edition. A complete set of the 14 issues of this illustrated publication. A newspaper printed in the style of each historical epoch it pretends to be from. Printed on various luxury papers of various colour, which debuted on the occasion of the reconstruction of Old Paris along the Seine for the Universal Exhibition of 1900, old-style calligraphy, raised initials and vignettes, many authors including Pierre Loti and Anatole France, numerous illustrations on wood. Issue two was entirely illustrated by Robida. 1: Gallo-Roman; 2: Merovingian; 3: Carolingian; 4: Saint-Louis; 5: 14th century Tour de Nesle; 6: The Middle Ages in the form of illuminated manuscripts; 7: Rabelais François 1e; 8: Henry IV; 9: Théophraste Renaudot; 10: Molière; 11: The Regency period; 12: Marie-Antoinette; 13: L'Ami du peuple; 14: Bonaparte. The hessian covers are darkened and a little rubbed. There is gilt titles and a red seal with the crest of Paris on it. The remnants of leather ties. Still attractive though. The individual issues are in good, clean condition, with just a touch of edgewear to a couple of the sheets. 31cm x 23cm. .

Grandcamp S.P. C1890 Première édition / Lettre originale, écrite et signée par Albert Robida. Datée du 3 août, et provenant de Grandcamp. La lettre est sur une seule feuille de papier à lettres, pliée, et écrite sur trois des côtés. Elle comporte une jolie petite vignette, qui le représente levant son verre pour porter un toast à son ami, le destinataire de la lettre. Le texte se lit comme suit : "Grandcamp, 3 août Mon cher ami. Tu es mille fois trop gentil - quel cadeau ! 10 bouteilles de vin de Maruani, 6 élixirs, 2 caisses de thé et 4 de pâte, de quoi égayer les jours de pluie, nous réchauffer les jours de froid, nous remonter le moral les jours de froid. Triste fin de saison, sans doute, pour la côte normande, avec l'arrivée au Havre* du visiteur asiatique. Heureusement que vous avez laissé Villers, qui doit se dépeupler comme Trouville avec ce voisin menaçant, tout près. On doit le remarquer partout, depuis deux semaines c'est plus propre, la municipalité nettoie ! Je me demande si nous aurons la chance de finir notre saison sans encombre. - Avec la perspective de retrouver les nymphes de la Seine dans leur bouillon de microbes à Argenteuil. Mon ami Montetand est allé à Saint-Malo pour un petit terrain acheté à la pointe de la Varenne, c'est là qu'il y a une affaire pour un superbe terrain sur la Rance près de Dinard, un grand parc divisé en lots - trop loin malheureusement ! Je vous souhaite une bonne saison à Valesaire, dans le Barbizon méditerranéen. Présentez mes respects à ces dames, et mes meilleurs vux au Dr Laffat, à M. Jaros, et à votre frère. Bonne poignée de main, de votre, A. Robida". Sous la vignette, figure le texte "Mon vice. Tribunal de police d'Isigny : 25 francs d'amende pour ivresse et trouble de l'ordre public". Une belle pièce de Robida. La lettre est propre et bien rangée, avec juste un peu de plis, provenant à la fois de la pliure originale et d'une nouvelle pliure. 17,5 cm x 22,5 cm. *Le visiteur asiatique est presque certainement une référence à la cinquième pandémie de choléra, qui a sévi en France entre 1881 et 1896.

First Edition / Orignal letter, written and signed by Albert Robida. Dated the third of August, and from Grandcamp. the letter is to a single sheet of writing paper, folded, and written to three of the sides. It includes an attractive small vignette, of him raising a glass to toast to his friend, the letters recipient. The text reads: "Grandcamp, August 3. My dear friend. You are a thousand times too kind what a supply! 10 bottles of Maruani wine, 6 elixirs, 2 crates of tea and 4 of paste enough to brighten up the rainy days, warm us up on cold days, and cheer us up on cold days. A sad end to the season, probably, for the Normandy coast, with the Asian visitor arriving in Le Havre*. It's a good thing you left Villers, which must be depopulating like Trouville with this threatening neighbour, so close by. We must be noticing it everywhere, for the last two weeks it's been cleaner, the Municipality is cleaning! I wonder if we'll be lucky enough to finish our season without any trouble. - With the prospect of finding the Seine nymphs in their broth of microbes in Argenteuil. My friend Montetand went to Saint-Malo for a small plot of land bought at the tip of Varenne, that's where there's a deal on superb land on the Rance near Dinard, a large park divided into lots - too far unfortunately! I wish you a good season in Valesaire, in the Mediterranean Barbizon. Give my respects to these ladies, and my best wishes to Dr. Laffat, Mr. Jaros, and your brother. Good handshake, of your, A. Robida". Below the vignette, is the text "My vice. Isigny Police Court: 25 francs fine for drunkenness and disorderly conduct." A lovely piece from Robida. The letter is clean and tidy, with just a little creasing, both from the original fold, and from it being folded again. 17.5cm x 22.5cm. *The Asian visitor is almost certainly a reference to the Fifth Cholera pandemic, which was rife in France between 1881 and 1896. .

ROCHE, Odilon.

NP C1930 Aquarelle sur dessin à la mine de plomb, signée en bas à gauche. Bien qu'il ne soit pas daté, ce dessin est très similaire aux uvres datées de 1930-1935. Surface visible 45,5 cm x 30 cm. Sous passe partout et sous verre dans un cadre en bois avec quelques manipulations seulement. L'aquarelle est en très bon état et clairement signée. Il y a un reste de peinture sur le bord supérieur droit. Il s'agit d'un beau portrait d'un nu dansant. Le cadre mesure 67 cm x 51 cm. Odilon Roche (1868-1947) était un artiste français réputé pour son travail d'aquarelliste, de dessinateur et de peintre. L'uvre de Roche comprend des aquarelles, des peintures au lavis et des dessins, souvent caractérisés par une exécution délicate et détaillée. En plus de ses activités artistiques, Roche a eu une carrière aux multiples facettes. Il a travaillé comme dégustateur de vin, marchand de couleurs et antiquaire spécialisé dans l'art du XVIIIe siècle et l'art persan. Ses uvres comprennent des lithographies et des pièces signées telles que "Musiciennes antiques" et "Port Issol", qui témoignent de sa maîtrise des techniques du crayon et de l'aquarelle, qu'il a toutes deux utilisées dans cette uvre.

Water colour over graphite drawing, signed lower left. Although undated, this is very similar to works dated 1930-1935. Visible area 45.5cm x 30cm. Under passe partout (sealed into this from behind) and under glass in a wooden frame with a little handling only. The water colour is in very good condition, and clearly signed. Odilon Roche (18681947) was a French artist renowned for his work as a watercolourist, draftsman, and painter. Roche's work included water colours, wash paintings, and drawings, often characterised by delicate and detailed execution. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Roche had a multifaceted career. He worked as a wine taster, colour merchant, and antiquarian specialising in 18th-century and Persian art. His works include lithographs and signed pieces such as "Musiciennes antiques" and "Port Issol," which reflect his mastery of both pencil and watercolour techniques, both of which he utilised in this piece. .

Reliure cartonnée originale avec un dos en cuir vert et des titres verts avec une décoration simple. Planches marbrées vertes. Les deux volumes sont légèrement frottés mais en bon état. A l'intérieur, les livres se tiennent bien, mais avec des rousseurs modérées dans les deux volumes. Texte en français. Le premier volume comporte un frontispice de Roches en face de la page de titre. La page de titre du premier volume porte le cachet du Capitaine Lacour. Un second petit tampon sur chaque deuxième volume indique "14th Hussards cercle des Officiers". Léon Roches (1809-1900) était un diplomate français, aujourd'hui surtout connu pour son rôle d'ambassadeur de France au Japon de 1864 à 1868. En 1832, Roches rejoint son père en Algérie, où il apprend rapidement l'arabe et devient traducteur pour l'armée française. Il sert comme sous-lieutenant dans la Garde nationale d'Algérie de 1835 à 1839 et est le secrétaire personnel de l'émir Abdelkader de 1836 à 1840. Après la reprise des hostilités, Roches rejoint l'armée française et devient interprète auprès du général Thomas-Robert Bugeaud. Roches occupe divers postes diplomatiques en Afrique du Nord et en Europe, dont celui de secrétaire de la légation française à Tanger (1846), de consul à Trieste, à Tripoli et à Tunis. À Tunis, il conseille le Bey sur les réformes à entreprendre, mais se heurte au mécontentement local dû à l'augmentation des impôts. Green marbled boards. Both volumes are slightly rubbed but in decent condition. Inside, the books are holding well, but with moderate foxing throughout both volumes. Text in French. Volume one has a frontis of Roches opposite the title page. There is an owner's name stamp for Le Capitaine Lacour to the title page of the first volume. In the mid 19th century, Bilbille went from Paris to Leipzig fair, via the fabric producing towns of Mulhouse and Saint-Gall, buying and selling fabric samples. This original hand embellished advertising poster has been created to promote an industrial collaboration. It shows a fashionable female of the time in a dress which has been highlighted in places with a lighter colour. She is holding an umbrella or parasol. A highly scarce self-published comic from early 1990s Dutch underground scene. An absurd tale starring the eccentric Professor Anton Mol, blending humour and surrealism. This is the wonderful limited collector's item - both signed, and inscribed with an original colour caricature drawn and signed by Stefan de Groot. This was the first instalment of the Dutch comic series Kwab, specifically subtitled as the debut story of Prof. Dr. Anton Mol. Limited to only 100 copies, this is hand numbered on the colophon, and also has the signature of John Robben (listed as technical commentator on the colophon). Hardback boards, yellow linen binding, colour image laid on. Acid-free paper, with b/w images throughout. Plus, loosely inserted postcard - which is the same as the front board's image. A quirky gem for Dutch bande dessinée completists! In fine / almost as new condition. 32 pages. 21 x 15 cm.
