London & Paris Abraham Raimbach Warren & François Janet 1826 Gravure de Charles Beyer d'après une peinture de Sir David Wilkie. Jolie petite gravure. Dans une cour, un messager à cheval remet une lettre à une famille. Derrière montée récent avec détail doré. Les informations de l'éditeur sont cachées sous le montage. Légère coloration aux coins de la gravure n'affectant pas l'image (probablement pourquoi le montage a été rendu si serré). L'image elle-même mesure 120 mm x 100 mm. La monture mesure 210 par 170 mm

Engraving by Charles Beyer after a painting by Sir David Wilkie. Attractive small etching. In a courtyard, a messenger on horseback delivers a letter to a family. Behind recent passe partout with gilt detail. The publisher's information is hidden under the mount. Slight staining to the corners of the engraving not affecting picture (presumably why the mount was made so tight). The image itself is 120 mm x 100 mm. The mount is 210 by 170mm (8Πby 6٠inches).

BEZOMBES, Roger.

Paris Karcher, Aubervilliers 1980 Première édition. Affiche publicitaire vintage réalisée par Roger Bezombes vers 1980, pour la célèbre marque de chaussures Bally. Il existe plusieurs variantes de cette affiche. La principale différence semble être l'emplacement de la signature. Notre exemplaire, avec le nom au milieu de la scène, est une édition originale de Karcher. (Voir la photo des détails de l'imprimante). Certains exemplaires sont beaucoup plus grands (format affiche de cinéma). Celui-ci mesure 60 cm x 40 cm. C'est la taille idéale pour l'encadrer à la maison ! L'affiche est principalement en excellent état, propre, mais avec une ligne de dommage / résidu de ruban adhésif sur le bord gauche. Cette ligne peut facilement être masquée lors de l'encadrement. Dans l'ensemble, il s'agit d'un très bel exemplaire.

First Edition. Vintage advertising poster made by Roger Bezombes around 1980, for the famous shoe brand Bally. There are several variants of this poster. The main difference seems to be where the signature is placed. Our copy, with the name in the middle of the scene, is an original Karcher issue. (See photograph of printer details). Some are much larger (cinema poster size). This one is 60cm x 40cm. The perfect size for framing at home! The poster is mainly in excellent, clean condition, but with a line of damage / tape residue to the left edge. Could easily be masked in framing. Overall a very nice copy. .

BEZOMES, Roger.

Paris Mourlot 1973 Première édition. Très bel exemplaire de cette affiche lithographique originale de Bezombes. Un bon exemplaire propre, avec un léger pli à un coin, mais autrement en excellent état. Cette exposition était destinée à annoncer une exposition de peintures, dessins et gravures de Bezombes. 76cm x 51cm. La salle du jeu de Paume est un lieu important à Versailles, utilisé pendant la Révolution française, la salle du Jeu de Paume est devenue un symbole de la Révolution en cours. Le 20 juin 1789, les députés du Tiers état s'y réunissent pour les États généraux. Roger Bezombes (1913-1994) était un peintre, sculpteur, graveur, médailleur et designer français, surtout connu pour son uvre vibrante et expérimentale influencée par ses nombreux voyages et les mouvements artistiques modernes.

First edition. A very nice copy of this original lithographic poster by Bezombes. A good clean copy, with a light crease to one corner, but otherwise in excellent condition. This exhibition was to advertise an exhibition of paintings, designs and engravings by Bezomes. 76cm x 51cm. The Salle du jeu de Paume - or the Tennis Court room, is an important location at Versailles, used during the French Revolution, the Jeu de Paume Hall became a symbol of the Revolution in progress. On June 20, 1789, the deputies of the Third Estate met there for the Estates-General. Roger Bezombes (19131994) was a French painter, sculptor, printmaker, medallist, and designer, best known for his vibrant and experimental work influenced by his extensive travels and modern art movements. .

Red cloth with gilt titles and design to the front cover. #97/300 (of a total edition of 350). One of a series of four anthologies of poetry and fiction published by Bhat in 1931-32. The contibutors include T F Powys, Oswell Blakeston, Laurence Powys, John Gawsworth and Rhys Davies. 225 by 150mm (8Ÿ by 6 inches). Good clean condition, with a touch of fading to the spine. Internally clean and tidy, with fractional darkening to the page edges.

France NP 1970 Première édition / numérotée. Une estampe représentant deux visages de profil. Sur papier vélin épais. Biaussat était reconnu comme l'un des principaux peintres figuratifs français de sa génération. Signée et numérotée au crayon en bas à gauche. Edition limitée et numérotée 22 sur 70. Imprimé sur un papier d'art à forte trame. Verso vierge. Le bord inférieur présente quelques petites entailles et un très léger froissement, mais reste en très bon état pour l'encadrement. Très léger assombrissement des bords. 40cm x 57cm.

First edition / numbered. A print of two faces in profile. On heavy wove paper. Biaussat was recognised as one of the leading French figurative painters of his generation. Signed and numbered in pencil to lower left. Limited and numbered #22 of 70. Printed to a heavy weave art paper. Blank verso. The bottom edge has a couple of small nicks and there is very light creasing, but still in very nice condition for framing. Very slight darkening to edge. 40cm x 57cm. .

New York Scribner And Welford 1886 Première édition américaine. Plaques picturales recouvertes de papier. Dos en tissu noir. Quelques bosses sur les bords des planches et une légère décoloration sur le bord inférieur. Les premières pages ont été renforcées avec du ruban adhésif à un moment donné et, dans le cas de la page de titre, elles ont été recollées. Le reste de l'ouvrage est en bon état, propre. Les planches sont attrayantes et il y a juste un peu de noircissement sur les bords des pages. 18 belles lithographies d'A. Bichard. 104 pages. 330 x 240 mm

First American Edition. Paper covered pictorial boards. Black cloth spine. A touch of bumping to the edges of the boards, and a slight discolouration to the bottom edge. The first few pages have been reinforced with tape at some point, and in the case of the title page, re-attached. The rest of the book is in good, clean condition. The plates are attractive and there is just a touch of darkening to the page edges. 18 lovely lithographs by A. Bichard. 104 pages. 330 by 240mm (13 by 9œ inches). .

Original diced Russian calf with gilt decoration to spine. Bookplate to the inside board. Contemporary gift inscription to the end paper. There is an engraved vignette to the title page. After the treatise on Prayer, there is around 70 pages with examples of prayers for the faithful to use, and an index. Edward Bickersteth (1786-1850) was an evangelical Church of England clergyman. He was active in promoting the Evangelical Alliance and was strongly opposed to the Tractarian movement. His son became the Bishop of Exeter. There is rubbing to the edges of the boards, with a little bumping to the corners. The gilt to the spine has been rubbed and the titles are no longer legible. It appears that the book may have been repaired in the distant past (unsure) the end papers look a little newer. The binding is strong and secure. Internally clean and tidy throughout with just a little darkening. Overall a sound copy.

Rousseurs modérées sur les pages de garde et le frontispice, avec un léger assombrissement sur le reste de l'ouvrage. Ex-libris à l'intérieur de la première planche. Un très bel exemplaire de cet ouvrage rare. Des lettres fascinantes qui donnent un aperçu de la vie de la gentry au début du dix-neuvième siècle en Grande-Bretagne. 277 x 208 mm. xvi, 152 pp.

Den Haag Uitgave Tiraha C1937 Première édition (supposée). Un rare portfolio de portraits de compositeurs par Menachem Birnbaum. Publié par Uitgave Tiraha de Den Haag. Un grand portfolio à couverture souple verte avec une étiquette de titre (comprenant un petit portrait de Beethoven) collée sur la couverture avant. Les couvertures sont décolorées et marquées sur les bords, et le dos est un peu fendu, mais elles tiennent encore bien. A l'intérieur se trouvent six feuilles de papier rigide / carton léger (chacune un peu assombrie). Le premier feuillet comporte une feuille de titre en néerlandais collée sur le feuillet. Les cinq autres présentent des portraits de compositeurs célèbres. Il s'agit de Verdi, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert et Chopin. Chaque portrait est signé dans la plaque par Birnbaum. Les images mesurent 24 cm x 18 cm. 36,5 cm x 27 cm. Menachem Birnbaum (1893-probablement 1944/45) était un illustrateur de livres et portraitiste juif autrichien. Après la montée du nazisme, Birnbaum émigre aux Pays-Bas en 1933. Au printemps 1943, il est arrêté par la Gestapo avec sa famille et déporté le 10 mars 1943 dans un camp de concentration nazi, probablement Auschwitz. Birnbaum a été vu vivant pour la dernière fois à Auschwitz en octobre 1944 par un survivant juif néerlandais. Nous n'avons trouvé aucune trace de cette uvre nulle part, que ce soit dans Worldcat, dans les registres des ventes aux enchères ou en rapport avec l'uvre de Birnbaum. Nous avons supposé la datation, car Uitgave Tiraha a publié un livre de personnalités juives notables illustré par Birnbaum en 1937. Nous supposons que cet ouvrage date d'une époque similaire.

First edition (assumed). A rare portfolio of portraits of composers by Menachem Birnbaum. Published by Uitgave Tiraha of Den Haag. A large green soft cover portfolio with a title label (including a small portrait of Beethoven) tipped onto the front cover. The covers are faded and marked to the edges, and with a little splitting to the spine, but still holding well. Inside are six sheets of stiff paper / light card (each a little darkened). The first has a title sheet in Dutch tipped onto the sheet. The other five have portraits of famous composers. These are Verdi, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Chopin. Each is signed in the plate by Birnbaum. The images are 24cm x 18cm. Sheets are 36.5cm x 27cm. Menachem Birnbaum (1893probably 1944/45) was an Austrian Jewish book illustrator and portrait painter. After the rise of the Nazis, Birnbaum emigrated to the Netherlands in 1933. In the spring of 1943, he was arrested by the Gestapo along with his family and deported on March 10, 1943, to a Nazi concentration campmost likely Auschwitz. Birnbaum was last seen alive in Auschwitz in October 1944 by a Dutch Jewish survivor. We can find no record of this work anywhere, whether in worldcat, auction records or connected to Birnbaum's work. We have assumed the dating, as Uitgave Tiraha published a book of notable Jewish personalities illustrated by Birnbaum in 1937. We assume this is from a similar time. According to the fly leaf, there were plans for at least five further works in the series. We cannot find any of them and suspect that the Second World War intervened! .

Couverture rigide originale en toile bleue avec illustrations et titres dorés et noirs sur les planches avant et arrière. Le dos est sensiblement décoloré et les bords supérieur et inférieur sont légèrement frottés. Papiers de fin en couleur, avec un ex-libris à l'intérieur de la première planche. Avec une initiale en couleur et 50 planches en couleur d'Uriel Birnbaum. Birnbaum était le fils viennois du philosophe juif Nather Birnbaum. Il a émigré aux Pays-Bas lorsque l'Allemagne a annexé l'Autriche. Il est décédé en 1956. L'intérieur de l'ouvrage est propre et bien rangé. 84 pages. Texte en allemand. 310 par 235mm (12Œ par 9Œ pouces).

First edition. A very nice copy of this first edition. Original blue cloth hardback with Gilt and black illustrations and titles to the front and rear boards. Spine is significantly faded and has a little rubbing to the top and bottom edges. Coloured end papers, with bookplate to the inside front board. With one coloured initial and 50 coloured plates by Uriel Birnbaum. Birnbaum was the Viennese son of the Jewish philosopher Nather Birnbaum. He emigrated to the Netherlands when Germany annexed Austria. He died in 1956. Internally clean and tidy throughout. 84 pages. Text in German. 310 by 235mm (12Πby 9Πinches). .

First edition. Large, hardback book. Black cloth inside original unclipped dust jacket. Book and jacket in very good condition. Edited by Marco Bischof (son of Werner), with museum director Simon Maurer, and graphic designer Peter Zimmermann. 463 pages. 270 x 250 mm (10Ÿ x 9Ÿ inches).

BISCOP, Lt.

Austria S.P. 1942 Première édition. Une ravissante aquarelle représentant une vue architecturale. Elle montre un grand édifice de style classique, ressemblant à une église, avec des fontaines dans chacune des arcades et des statues devant le bâtiment. Magnifiquement exécutée, elle est signée en bas à droite par le lieutenant Biscop. Il s'identifie comme le prisonnier n° 1838 de l'Oflag XVII A. Il précise également que le tableau a été remis aux Allemands le 29 juillet 1942. Il semblerait que Biscop ait eu accès à du matériel et ait été autorisé à peindre, à condition de remettre l'uvre achevée à ses geôliers. Nous n'avons pas pu identifier le bâtiment représenté. Compte tenu des circonstances dans lesquelles il a été dessiné, il pourrait s'agir d'un édifice idéal, plutôt que d'un lieu réel. L'Oflag XVII-A était un camp de prisonniers de guerre allemand situé près d'Edelbach et de Döllersheim, dans l'actuelle Autriche. Il accueillait principalement des officiers français capturés après la bataille de France et fut libéré en mai 1945. Le camp était réputé pour l'éducation des prisonniers, ses activités culturelles et ses tentatives d'évasion. C'est peut-être dans ce contexte que le peintre fut autorisé à consacrer du temps à la réalisation de vues architecturales. L'uvre indique que le peintre était un élève de Pontienioli Leconte. Il semblerait qu'il s'agisse d'une référence à l'école des beaux-arts « l'atelier Pontrémoli ». Fondée à Paris par Emmanuel PONTRÉMOLI (18651956), qui y enseignait, l'école fut ensuite confiée à André (Alphonse, Léon) Leconte (1894-1966), qui en prit la direction en 1942. L'uvre fait également référence à Lablande el Vassao, que nous n'avons pas pu identifier. Verso vierge. Le chiffre 162 a été inscrit d'une petite écriture au crayon sur le bord gauche, mais sans aucune indication quant à sa signification. 600 × 840 mm (23œ × 33 pouces). Dans l'ensemble en excellent état, avec une légère tache sur le bord supérieur.

First edition. A lovely water colour of an architectural view. It shows a large, classical building, Church like, with fountains in each of the arches and statues in front of the building. Beautifully executed, and signed to the bottom right by Lt Biscop. He identifies himself as prisoner #1838 at Oflag XVII A. He also states that the painting was handed over to the Germans on 29th July 1942. It would seem that Biscop was permitted materials and allowed to paint, if he gave the finished work to his captors. We have not been able to identify the building shown. Given the circumstances in which it was drawn, it may represent an ideal building, rather than an actual place. Oflag XVII-A was a German prisoner of war camp near Edelbach and Döllersheim in present-day Austria. It held mainly French officers captured after the Battle of France and was liberated in May 1945. The camp became known for prisoner education, cultural activity, and escape efforts. It was perhaps in this context that the painter was permitted to spend time painting architectural views. The work states that the painter was a student at Pontienioli Leconte. This would seem to be a reference to the school of fine arts l'atelier Pontrémoli. Established in Paris by Emmanuel PONTRÉMOLI (18651956) who taught, and later handed over the studio to André (Alphonse, Léon) Leconte (1894-1966) He took the control of the studio in 1942. There is also a reference to Lablande el Vassao which we have been unable to identify. Blank to verso. The number 162 has been written in a small hand in crayon to the left edge, but without any clue as to its meaning. 600 by 840mm (23œ by 33 inches). Overall in excellent condition, with a touch of minor staining to the top edge. .

France S.P. C1890 Première édition / exemplaire unique. Aquarelle originale signée E. Bizet. L'uvre représente une jeune femme de profil, les cheveux blonds relevés en chignon, portant un col et un nud sombres de style fin XIXe siècle, rendus à l'aquarelle sur papier texturé. Cette technique impressionniste suggère une date comprise entre 1880 et 1900. Sous la peinture se trouve un petit croquis au crayon du même visage. La feuille est légèrement foncée et rousseur sur les bords, avec quelques traces d'usure. Elle semble avoir été retirée d'un album à un moment donné. Verso vierge. La zone peinte mesure 14 cm x 12 cm. La feuille mesure 27,5 cm x 22 cm.

First edition / only copy. An original water colour signed E. Bizet. The work depicts a young woman in three-quarter profile with blonde hair in a bun, wearing a dark late nineteenth century style collar and bow, rendered in loose water colour washes on textured paper. This impressionistic technique suggests a date around 18801900. Below the painting is a small pencil working of the same face. The sheet is a little darkened and foxed to the edges with some edgewear to the sheet. Appears to have been removed from an album at some point. Blank to the verso. The painted area is 14cm x 12cm. The sheet is 27.5cm x 22cm. .

First Edition. In hardback illustrated boards with matching original dust jacket. Very tight and neat, appears almost unread. Angelo is an Italian boy who travels with his family performing gymnastics and walking a tightrope to entertain people. One day he sees a girl in the crowd who is crying, and so he sets his mind that he must do something to cheer her up. Not one of Blake's best known titles, but a fun and colourfully illustrated children's book with a lovely message! 270 x 215 mm (10Ÿ x 8œ inches).

Paris Chez Jacques Etienne 1713 Premières éditions. Deux volumes reliés en un seul. Traité (publié anonymement pour cette première édition, son nom n'apparaît que dans la deuxième édition de 1718) sur la manière d'apporter un soutien spirituel aux malades et aux mourants. Contrairement à ce qui était habituel à l'époque, l'essentiel de l'ouvrage aide les prêtres à apporter du réconfort aux malades. Reliure en cuir attrayante, avec décorations dorées et étiquette bordeaux avec titre doré. En bon état, avec seulement quelques traces de frottement. Dans l'ensemble, l'ouvrage est propre et soigné. Jolies initiales historiées. Il y a de légers dommages causés par les vers dans tout l'ouvrage (qui n'affectent pas vraiment le texte). La dernière feuille, qui devrait être collée au dos, s'est décollée et n'est donc pas collée. Il est agréable de voir de petits morceaux de vieilles bandes de vélin utilisés comme matériau de reliure en dessous. Dans l'ensemble, c'est un très bel exemplaire. Première édition rare. A treatise (published anonymously for this first edition, his name was only attached in the 1718 second edition) on how to give spiritual sustenance to the sick and dying. Unusually for the time, most of the work is helping priests give consolation to the sick. Attractive full leather binding, with gilt decoration and burgundy label with gilt title. In good condition, with a touch of rubbing only. No end paper, so the book begins at the title page (presumably lacking the half title). The first two leaves have small nick to the corner. Mostly clean and tidy throughout Attractive historiated initials. There is slight worm damage throughout the work (doesn't really affect the text). The final leaf, which should be pasted to the rear board, has lifted, and so is not pasted down. It's nice to see small pieces of old vellum strips used as binding material beneath. Il s'agit peut-être d'une de ses épreuves originales pour l'un de ses livres culinaires, mais nous n'avons pas été en mesure de la localiser si c'est le cas. Elle est signée au dos, avec la mention "Chez Mario", qui pourrait être un restaurant ? L'image elle-même est propre et nette, mais le cadre blanc présente quelques taches. Ces taches pourraient être cachées par un montage. L'image est maintenant présentée sous un passe partout temporaire. L'image mesure 20 cm x 30 cm. La feuille mesure 30 cm x 41 cm. Jean-Louis Bloch-Lainé est un éminent photographe français célèbre pour ses photographies éditoriales, artistiques et documentaires. Sa longue carrière, qui s'étend du début des années 1960 à aujourd'hui, a influencé la culture visuelle française, tant dans le domaine de la mode que dans celui des beaux-arts. Il a commencé à travailler pour le magazine Elle en 1963. Il est particulièrement connu pour ses photographies culinaires.

First edition. A large black and white photograph by the celebrated photographer Jean-Louis Bloch-Lainé. This may be one of his original proofs for one of his culinary books, but we haven't been able to locate it if so. It is signed to the rear, with the note "Chez Mario" which may be a restaurant ? The image itself is clean and neat, but the white surround has some staining to it. This could be hidden with mounting. Now presented under a temporary passe partout. Image is 20cm x 30cm. Sheet is 30cm x 41cm. Jean-Louis Bloch-Lainé is a distinguished French photographer celebrated for his editorial, artistic, and documentary photography. His extensive career, spanning from the early 1960s onward, has influenced French visual culture in both fashion and fine art contexts. He began his work with Elle magazine in 1963. He is particularly known for his culinary photographs. .

Les pages sont légèrement assombries. Les illustrations sont joliment imprimées sur du papier d'art avec des gardes de tissus. Les couvertures originales sont reliées et propres, bien qu'un peu assombries. 416 pages. 290 x 210 mm (11œ x 8Œ pouces). Rodolphe Töpffer (1799-1846) était un enseignant, auteur, peintre, dessinateur et caricaturiste suisse. Considéré par beaucoup comme le premier auteur de bandes dessinées de l'histoire.

Rodolphe Töpffer (17991846) was a Swiss teacher, author, painter, cartoonist, and caricaturist. Considered by many to have produced the first comic books in history.
