Il semble qu'il soit devenu humide à un moment donné, ce qui se reflète dans une tache d'eau sur les planches en tissu bleu en dessous. Le contenu du livre reste propre et frais et en bon état.

First edition. Hardback photo book from the exhibition of the famous Parisian photojournalist's work at the end of 1990. In original unclipped photo dust jacket. Full of iconic b/w images of Paris. Text in French. 140 pages. 280 x 255 mm (11 x 10 inches). Dust jacket has some peeling at the edges. It appears to have got damp at some point, and this is reflected in a water stain to the blue cloth boards underneath. The contents of the book remain clean and fresh and undamaged.

BOULLAIRE, Jacques.

Paris S.P. C 1937 Bel exemplaire de cette gravure du Pont Neuf à Paris. C'était un sujet populaire pour Boullaire, et il a dessiné plusieurs versions différentes à partir de la même position. La gravure est en bon état général (avec quelques manipulations et de légers plis). La gravure est signée dans la planche, mais elle est également signée à l'encre sur le bord inférieur, avec une inscription sur le bord gauche. La surface gravée est de 17,5 cm x 22 cm. La feuille mesure 28 cm x 28,5 cm. Beau papier d'art lourd avec des bords rugueux. "Il y a beaucoup de charme dans cette vue du Pont-Neuf, une attraction touristique majeure de Paris. An attractive copy of this engraving of the Pont Neuf in Paris. This was a popular subject for Boullaire, and he drew several different versions from the same position. The engraving is in generally good condition (with a little handling and light creasing). The engraving is signed in the plate, but is also signed in ink to the bottom edge, with an inscription to the left edge. Engraved area is 17.5cm x 22cm. Sheet it 28cm x 28.5cm. Nice heavy art paper with rough edges. "There is a great deal of charm in this view of the Pont-Neuf, a major tourist attraction in Paris. The line is firm and incisive, the composition balanced and harmonious. Jacques Boullaire (1893-1976) was an engraver and illustrator. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Indépendants from 1927 to 1945. He is best known as an illustrator of numerous literary works by: Musset, Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, Balzac, Flaubert, and Gautier." (From the Louvre entry for this item). .

Le cadre a une petite plaque en plexiglas avec le nom de l'artiste et les dates. Jean-Louis Boussingault (1883-1943) était un artiste français connu pour son travail de peintre, de graveur et d'illustrateur. Né à Paris, il était le petit-fils du chimiste Jean-Baptiste Boussingault. Il s'est orienté vers un style artistique post-impressionniste.

Frame has a small perspex placque with artist's name and dates. Jean-Louis Boussingault (1883-1943) was a French artist known for his work as a painter, engraver, and illustrator. Born in Paris, he was the grandson of chemist Jean-Baptiste Boussingault. He tended towards a post-impressionist artistic style. .

BOWEN, Emanuel

London Thomas Bowles 1720

Copper engraving by Emanuel Bowen published in the pocket road book 'Britannia Depicta' by Thomas Bowles from 1720. This was the first truly pocket sized road book for the traveller based on the surveys of John Ogilby published in large folio format 45 years earlier in 1675. The plates were printed on both sides of the paper, reducing the weight of the volume which required considerable organisation for the process of copperplate printing as the ink required an extensive drying-off period. The notes by John Owen were engraved by Emanuel Bowen on the copperplate surrounding the road maps and also on separate plates. The maps have become commonly known as "Owen & Bowen" maps. The map is set below a decorative cartouche containing the title for the road from London to Bristol with the final part of the road from London to Berwick verso. 190 x 120 mm (7œ x 4Ÿ inches).

BOWLES, Thomas Gibson (Jehu Junior)

N/A 1875 Une collection de 90 lithographies pleine page tirées de Vanity Fair, des illustrations de SPY (Sir Leslie Ward) et APE (Carlo Pellegrini) ainsi qu'un grand nombre d'illustrations anonymes. En face de la plupart des lithographies se trouve la biographie, rédigée principalement par Gibson sous le nom de Jehu Junior, dans une écriture manuscrite soignée. (Une plaque portant le nom et la signature du propriétaire / compilateur est collée à l'intérieur de la première planche, mais nous n'avons pas pu les identifier). Quatre des biographies comportent un autographe du sujet collé sur la page. Il s'agit de Sir Francis Grant (portraitiste écossais et président de la Royal Academy). Il était passionné de chasse, et cette biographie comporte également une grande esquisse d'un chasseur réalisée par Grant et collée sur la page. Richard Boyle (9e comte de Cork et d'Orrery). Frederic Leighton (peintre, dessinateur et sculpteur. Il a également eu la distinction d'être le pair le plus court de l'histoire. Il est mort le lendemain de sa nomination comme Lord). Révérend Arthur Stanley (doyen de Westminster). Non paginé, mais environ 180 pages, avec 90 lithographies collées et environ 85 biographies. Les albums ont des planches noires et des dos en cuir noir. Les dos sont considérablement frottés et présentent quelques fissures. Les titres sont dorés sur les premières planches. A collection of 90 full page lithographs from Vanity Fair, illustrations by SPY (Sir Leslie Ward) and APE (Carlo Pellegrini) as well as a large number that are anonymous. Lithographed by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son. Facing most of the lithographs, is the biography, mostly written by Gibson as Jehu Junior, written in a neat manuscript hand. (There is a tipped in plate bearing the owner / compiler's name and signature to the inside front board, but we have been unable to identify them). Four of the biographies have the subject's autograph tipped in to the page. These are Sir Francis Grant (Scottish portrait painter and President of the Royal Academy). He was a keen hunter, and this also has a large sketch of a huntsman by Grant tipped in. Richard Boyle (9th Earl of Cork and Orrery). Frederic Leighton (Painter, draughtsman and sculptor. He also had the distinction of the shortest peerage in history. He died the day after being made a Lord). Reverend Arthur Stanley (Dean of Westminster). Unpaginated, but approximately 180 pages. with 90 lithographs pasted in and approximately 85 biographies. The scrapbooks have black boards and black leather spines. The spines are significantly rubbed, and have some splitting. There are gilt titles to the front boards. Inside, the volumes are both in good condition, with a touch of marking, but overall very clean condition. 380 by 270mm (15 by 10Ÿ inches).

L'adresse typographique au bas de la table des matières est : 25-202. - Tours, Impr. E. Arrault et Cie. Seuls 33 exemplaires ont été justifiés. Cet exemplaire est justifié par le cachet de l'éditeur. Pages non rognées. L'intérieur est propre et bien rangé, avec un peu de noircissement sur les pages seulement. Quelques petites marques d'usure sur les blancs du dos. Un très bel exemplaire. Talvart & Place, I, 7 A. Boulanger était un romancier prolifique et un escrimeur olympique. Il obtint cet exemplaire dédicacé au début de sa carrière. 304 pages. 200 par 160mm (7Ÿ par 6Œ pouces).

Boulanger was a prolific novelist and Olympic fencer. He obtained this inscribed copy towards the beginning of his career 304 pages. 200 by 160mm (7٠by 6Πinches). .

Couverture souple propre et soignée, avec ce qui semble être une illustration coloriée à la main sur la couverture avant. Il y a une très petite entaille sur le bord inférieur de la couverture arrière, mais sinon, l'état est excellent. Hommage à la série de gravures de Giovanni Battista Braccelli intitulée « Bizzarie di varie figure » (1624), rééditée avec un commentaire dadaïste à l'intention des collectionneurs d'art du milieu du siècle. Édition limitée et numérotée. L'un des 500 exemplaires sur papier Hollande van Gelder. (L'édition totale comptait 525 exemplaires). Étui contenant un dossier de 18 x 24 cm renfermant deux livrets, le premier comprenant le texte de Tristan Tzara sur « Bizzarie », la série de gravures de l'artiste florentin du XVIIe siècle Braccelli, les notes d'Alain Brieux et un dépliant illustrant l'alphabet de l'artiste. 49 (ii) pages. L'autre livret, relié en faux vélin imitant les reliures du début du XVIIe siècle, contient un fac-similé de la série de gravures. (50 planches, complètes). Les deux livres sont en très bon état, ne présentant que quelques traces de rousseur. Le portfolio présente de légères taches sur le bord supérieur. Le coffret, muni d'une étiquette en papier sur le devant, présente une perte de papier de surface sur le bord inférieur. La base a été renforcée. Les dommages ne sont pas visibles lorsque l'ouvrage est rangé sur une étagère. 18,5 cm x 23,5 cm.

Slipcase containing folder 18 x 24 cm containing two booklets, the first with Tristan Tzara's text on 'Bizzarie' the suite of etchings by the 17th century Florentine artist Braccelli, Alain Brieux's notes, and a fold-out illustrating the artist's alphabet. 49 (ii). pages. with the other booklet, which is bound in faux vellum, imitating early 17th century bindings, containing a facsimile of the suite of etchings. (50 plates, complete). The two books are in very good condition, with a touch of foxing only to them. The portfolio has a little staining to the top edge. The slipcase, with paper label to the front, has loss of surface paper to the bottom edge. The base has been reinforced. The damage is not visible when on the shelf. 18.5cm x 23.5cm. .

Couvertures en papier souple avec un motif ligné bleu (collé sur une ancienne feuille de papier imprimé). Le papier est noirci et ébréché sur les bords. Le dos en papier est également fendu. La reliure tient toujours. A l'intérieur de la couverture se trouve une étiquette collée de la Bibliothèque de Nancy de Vincenot. Le livre lui-même est en bon état, mais avec un peu d'usure et d'écaillage sur les bords. L'ouvrage est composé de deux parties principales, un calendrier qui traite du travail requis mois par mois pour un jardin potager. Il y a ensuite un deuxième compte-rendu mensuel pour les "plantes étrangères" et les jardins de fleurs / serres. Deux parties plus courtes traitent de la culture des ananas et de celle des asperges. Bien que le titre indique "avec figures", celles-ci semblent être les décorations des têtes de chapitres. Il ne manque aucune planche et aucune n'est mentionnée dans la liste de l'OCLC. 183 pages. 190 x 110 mm (7œ x 4Œ pouces). Conforme à FirstSearch / Worldcat OCLC : 258623413. Rare.

New edition. This appears to be a "cheap edition" of a 1750 edition. Soft paper covers with a blue lined pattern (pasted onto an old sheet of printed paper). The paper is darkened, and is chipped to the edges. There is also splitting along the paper spine. The binding is still holding. To the inside front cover is a pasted label of the Nancy Library of Vincenot. The book itself is in good condition, but with a little edgewear and some chipping tp the edges. The work is in two major parts, a calendar dealing with the work required month by month for a vegetable garden. There is then a second monthly account for "Foreign plants" and flower gardens / greenhouses. Two shorter parts include the cultivation of pineapples and that of asparagus. Although the title states "with figures" these would seem to be the decorations of chapter headings. Arnhem Brainich & Leusink 1880

A photograph by Brainich & Leusink of the celebrated artwork by Thomas Brooks showing Grace Darling on the way to rescue survivors from the shipwrecked Forfarshire in 1838. Her daring rescue of the survivors brought her fame, and several portraits, including this one by Thomas Brooks, now held in the RNLI Grace Darling museum. 165 by 110mm (6œ by 4Œ inches). Blank to verso, slightly stained, but sound. The image itself is bright. Albumen photograph stuck to cardboard. 165 x 110 mm (6œ x 4Œ inches). Thomas Brooks. 18181892. Albumen print, or Albumen silver. The albumen print became popular because it produced a rich sharp image. The process involves coating a sheet of paper with albumen (egg white), making the paper's surface glossy and smooth. It is then coated in a solution of silver nitrate. It was popular from 1860-1890, and was often used to create Carte d'visite.

BRAINSFATHER, Bruce.

New York G.P. Putnam's Sons 1945 Première édition avec jaquette rare. Brainsfather était un caricaturiste britannique populaire, créateur du personnage « Old Bill » pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il a servi comme dessinateur dans l'armée américaine, et ce livre est l'un des résultats de son travail. La jaquette est foncée et présente quelques entailles et éraflures sur les bords. Elle reste toutefois raisonnablement propre et attrayante. Le livre lui-même est propre. Les caricatures présentées ici sont tirées de son travail initialement publié dans le magazine « Stars and Stripes ». Le livre a clairement été imprimé juste à la fin de la guerre en Europe. First edition in scarce dust wrapper. Brainsfather was a popular British caricaturist, who has created "Old Bill" in the first world war. In the Second World War, he served as a cartoonist with the American Army, and this book is one of the results. Wrapper is darkened, and with some nicking and chipping to the edges. Still reasonably clean and attractive. The book itself is clean. The cartoons here, are drawn from his work that first appeared in "Stars and Stripes" magazine. The book was clearly printed just at the end of the war in Europe. To the colophon is a cartoon of Hirohito, labelled "He's next (and he knows it)". Unpaginated but circa 100 pages. 23cm x 15.5cm. ,

Denmark Carl Stenders forlag 1945 Première édition. Un jeu satirique rare de Frederik Bramming. Destinée à être découpée et assemblée à l'aide d'épingles et de ficelle, cette feuille a été publiée pour la première fois dans le Berlingske Tidende (un journal danois) à l'été 1945. Elle a ensuite été réorganisée et imprimée sur des feuilles de carton épais par Carl Stenders forlag pour Noël 1945. Le monogramme CS rouge est visible en haut à droite. La feuille montre des caricatures de Ribbentrop, Hitler, Gooring et Goebbels. Objet rare, lorsqu'il apparaît, il est généralement en mauvais état. Cette feuille est en très bon état, avec seulement quelques traces de noircissement sur les bords. Le verso est principalement propre, avec un léger noircissement. 34 cm x 48,5 cm. First edition. A scarce satirical game by Frederik Bramming. Intended to be cut out and pieced together with pins and string, the sheet was first published in Berlingske Tidende (a Danish newspaper) in the summer of 1945. It was then rearranged and printed on thick card sheets by Carl Stenders forlag for Christmas 1945. The red CS monogram can be seen to the top right. The sheet shows caricatures of Ribbentrop, Hitler, Gooring and Goebbels. A scarce item, when it appears, it is usually in poor condition. This sheet is in very good condition, with some darkening to the edges only. The verso is mainly clean with slight darkening. 34cm x 48.5cm. Carl Stenders Kunstforlag, founded in 1888, became known for publishing postcards and other printed materials, Towards the end of the war, they frequently re-issued items linked to Berlingske Tidende. .

BRANGWYN, Frank Willam.

London 1912 Gravure sur zinc. 54,5cm x 82,2cm. Une des 125 épreuves publiées, sur vélin épais à grandes marges, signée au crayon, titrée au crayon dans la marge inférieure droite. Après la publication, les planches ont été détruites. La planche a été gravée sur place au cours de l'hiver 1911. Planche 193 dans "The etchings of Frank Brangwyn : A catalogue raisonné" de William Gaunt. Le H.M.S. Duncan a été construit en 1892 et démantelé au chantier naval de Castle en 1911.
