CARRANCE, Raymond

NP NP C1975 Une très belle impression de cette caricature légèrement homoérotique, montrant un homme portant un sombrero avec un fouet et un faucon, debout sur un homme noir qui lui suce les orteils. Une affiche inhabituelle et quelque peu surréaliste. Avec le monogramme de Carrance sur l'image (à moitié caché dans une plume) et sa signature (peut-être imprimée) au bas de la feuille. Pièce rare, nous ne trouvons pas d'autres copies de cette affiche en ligne. 58,5 cm x 42 cm. Usure marginale seulement. Légèrement assombri au dos. Preuve qu'il a été collé sur un mur. Carte d'art rigide et brillante. Raymond Carrance (1921-1998) était un dessinateur et photographe français, également connu sous le nom de Czanara. Il a également illustré de nombreux livres. Sous le pseudonyme de "Czanara", Carrance a créé un catalogue privé de paysages oniriques homoérotiques. Il a également photographié en grande partie de jeunes hommes athlétiques.

A very nice printing of this slightly homoerotic cartoon / caricature, showing a sombrero wearing man with a whip and a falcon, standing on a black man who is sucking his toes. An unusual an somewhat surreal poster. With Carrance's monogram to the image (half hidden in a feather) and his signature (possibly printed) to the bottom of the sheet. Scarce item, we cannot find any other copies of this online. 58.5cm x 42cm. Fractional edgewear only. Slightly darkened to rear. Evidence of having been stuck on a wall. Stiff glossy art card. Raymond Carrance (1921-1998) was a French cartoonist and photographer, also known as Czanara. He also illustrated a number of books. Carrance created a private catalogue of homoerotic dreamscapes under the pseudonym "Czanara". Hi photography was also largely of young athletic men. .

Trouville-sur-mer Mourlot 1974 Première édition d'une affiche marquante de Jean Carzou pour une exposition à Trouville. Lithographie originale de l'époque. Grand format. 72 x 52,5 cm. Petit résidu de ruban adhésif dans les coins et petite déchirure fermée (maintenant réparée) à la base de l'affiche. L'ensemble est très propre. Jean Carzou, (Karnik Zouloumian), (1907-2000) est né en Syrie et est devenu un peintre, lithographe et décorateur français renommé d'origine arménienne. L'uvre de Carzou se caractérise par une utilisation méticuleuse de la ligne et de la perspective, créant des compositions à la fois structurées et oniriques. Son style fusionne la rigueur géométrique et le surréalisme poétique, dépeignant souvent des paysages urbains, des ruines architecturales et des figures énigmatiques. A first edition, striking poster by Jean Carzou for an exhibition in Trouville. Original lithograph from the time. Large format. 72 x 52.5cm. Small tape residue to the corners and a small closed tear (now repaired) to the base of the poster. Overall very clean. Jean Carzou, (Karnik Zouloumian), (1907-2000) was born in Syria, and became a renowned French painter, lithographer, and decorator of Armenian origin. Carzou's work is defined by its meticulous use of line and perspective, creating structured yet dreamlike compositions. His style merges geometric rigour with poetic surrealism, often depicting urban landscapes, architectural ruins, and enigmatic figures. His colour palette typically features muted tones that enhance the haunting quality of his imagery. .

Un exemplaire en bon état et très séduisant, en rouge et noir, imprimé sur papier jaune. Légers plis sur le papier rigide uniquement. Verso vierge. 515 × 395 mm (20Œ × 15œ pouces). Il semble y avoir eu trois variantes de cette estampe : « Opera I », en rouge sur papier blanc ; « Opera II », en turquoise sur papier blanc ; et celle-ci, « Opera III », en rouge sur papier jaune. C'est de loin la plus remarquable des trois, et apparemment la moins courante dans les ventes aux enchères. Jean Carzou (1907-2000).

First edition. One of only 35 copies (this being #14) of this coloured lithograph by Carzou. A clean, attractive item, in red and black, printed on yellow paper. A touch of light creasing to the stiff paper only. Blank to rear. 515 by 395mm (20Œ by 15œ inches). There seem to have been three variants of this print. Opera I, red on white paper. Opera II, turquoise on white paper. And this, Opera III, red on yellow. By far the most striking of the three, and seemingly the least common at auction. Jean Carzou (1907-2000). .

Paris Castrique 1777 Bel exemplaire original de cette gravure ancienne, représentant la mort du Chevalier D'Assas. Dessinée par Casanova et gravée par Pierre Laurent. Cette illustration rare, quoique plutôt sombre, a été publiée en deux formats. Nous pensons qu'il s'agit du format original, avec une édition ultérieure dédiée au Roi avec un texte différent en dessous (l'image gravée est identique). 36,5 cm x 45,5 cm, collé sur un support légèrement plus grand. La gravure elle-même est en bon état. Il y a un léger pli au centre de la feuille et une petite déchirure fermée sur les 2 cm supérieurs de la gravure. Des trous d'épingle sont présents dans le coin inférieur droit. Dans l'ensemble, le recto et le verso sont en bon état. La feuille de support est un peu abîmée sur les bords. Il n'est fixé que par le bord supérieur et pourrait être coupé ou enlevé. La bataille de Clostercamp (Kloster Kampen) est une victoire française sur une armée anglo-allemande pendant la guerre de Sept Ans.

A nice, original copy of this antique engraving, showing the death of Chevalier D'Assas. Designed by Casanova, and engraved by Pierre Laurent. This scarce, if rather sombre illustration appeared in two formats. We believe this to be the original format, with a later edition dedicated to the King with different text below (the engraved image is identical). 36.5cm x 45.5cm tipped onto a slightly larger backing paper. The engraving itself is in good condition. There is a light fold to the centre of the sheet, and a small closed tear to the top 2cm of the engraving. Pin holes to the bottom right corner. Overall in clean condition front and verso. The backing sheet is a little tatty to the edges. It is only tipped on by the top edge and could be trimmed or removed. The Battle of Clostercamp (Kloster Kampen) was a French victory over an Anglo-German army during the Seven Years' War. .

There is slight marking to the cloth portfolio covers, and a fractional fading to the black of the spine. The work itself and the etchings are in immaculate condition. There is a little darkening to the top edges of the sheets, and the title sheet of one engraving has a couple of spots to it. Bruxelles: Imprimerie de Fain 1816 Toile brune récente avec titres dorés. IVme Volume pour 1816 - 24 numéros. Le second semestre complet, y compris le rare numéro tricolore, qui a été publié en bleu, blanc et rouge. La reliure et les pages de garde sont impeccables. Le journal est propre et bien rangé, avec quelques pages non coupées. Légèrement noirci et quelques usures mineures sur les bords, mais dans l'ensemble, un excellent exemple. Le Nain Jaune était un journal politique pro-Bonaparte, ouvertement affiché au retour de Napoléon. Au second retour des Bourbons, le journal fut supprimé. En 1816, Cauchois-Lemaire s'était enfui en Belgique et le journal fut publié à partir de là. En novembre 1816, il fusionne avec le Mercure Surveillant pour devenir Le Libéral [ii]. 266 [ii] p. 230 x 150 mm

Recent brown cloth with gilt titles. IVme Volume for 1816 - 24 issues. The complete second half of the year, including the scarce Tricolour issue, which was published in blue, white and red. Binding and end papers are spotless. The newspaper is clean and tidy, with a few pages uncut. Slightly darkened and some minor edge wear, but overall an excellent example. Le Nain Jaune was a pro-Bonaparte political newspaper, openly displayed on Napoleon's return. At the second return of the Bourbons, the newspaper was suppressed. In 1816 Cauchois-Lemaire had fled to Belgium and the newspaper was published from there. In November 1816 it was merged with the Mercury Surveillant to become Le Liberal [ii]. 266 [ii] pp. 230 x 150 mm (9 x 6 inches). .

'Operation Magic Kingdom' was a billboard and street poster campaign in London (2007) against the Iraq war. This was also released as stamps and prints. OMK blind stamped and hand numbered in pencil to front. Has official CNPD red stamp on verso. With 4 binding holes in the left hand margin. Dimensions: 35,8 cm x 30.5cm. Excellent condition. Currently protected in archival film. James (Jimmy) Cauty, was formerly a musician with the band 'The Orb', and was a member of 'KLF'. Has the "C.N.P.D. Stamps of Mass Destruction Limited Edition". This is one of James Cauty's famous anti-occupation of Iraq protest prints. These stamps were the subject of a legal action in 2003 by Royal Mail alleging copyright infringement. Dimensions: 32.8 x 30.5 cm. Excellent condition. Currently protected in archival film. Scarce First Edition in dust wrapper. Signed to the front end paper by the author, and dated April 1914. Olive green wrapper with coloured vignette to the front of the wrapper, adverts for Putnam fiction to the rear. The author's first novel. Wrapper is clean, but with a little chipping to the edges, and with a touch of loss to the head and tail of the spine. The boards of the book are spotless, with just a touch of bumping to the edges. Internally clean and tidy, with a little foxing to the end papers. 376, iv pages. 190 by 130 mm (7œ by 5 inches).

Paris D. Joaquin Maria de Ferrer, Imp. by Julio Didot Mayor 1832 Un bel exemplaire de cette édition miniature. Reliure cathédrale contemporaine en cuir marron signée Simier of Paris, avec une abondante décoration dorée et un écusson armorié sur les plats. Motifs, titres et moulin à vent dorés au dos. Cette reliure est identique à une partie de la collection de reliures signées de la British Library Charles Ramsden. (Voir la cote BL c150k11) Les reliures sont un peu frottées, avec une légère perte de dorure, mais dans l'ensemble, elles sont en excellent état. Les charnières ont été restaurées professionnellement à un moment donné, d'une manière à peine perceptible. Papiers de fin marbrés. Illustré de 11 planches gravées par E Stalker (dont le frontis) et d'une carte dépliante coloriée à la main. Complet. Demi-titre à chaque volume, et un titre gravé sur papier glacé, et un second titre gravé. Le volume 1 comporte un portrait de Cervantes en frontispice (portrait de Cervantes gravé par E. Stalker d'après le dessin de José del Castillo) et 5 planches gravées. Il se termine par une magnifique carte miniature coloriée à la main, montrant les voyages de Don Quichotte. Le volume 2 présente 5 planches gravées. A l'intérieur, les livres sont en très bon état, mais avec un léger assombrissement et une rousseur modérée sur les pages. Il s'agit néanmoins d'un très bel exemplaire. Il s'agit de la deuxième édition de Don Quijote par Ferrer. La première était en un seul volume, cette édition permettait un meilleur interlignage et deux planches supplémentaires. Cette luxueuse reliure ajoute beaucoup à l'attrait de l'ouvrage, qui avait été publié à l'origine dans des enveloppes de papier. Nb. De nombreuses sources citent STAKKER comme graveur, mais un examen attentif des gravures montre qu'il s'agit d'E. Stalker. Christie's a indiqué lors d'une vente récente que Ferrer était un grand admirateur de Cervantès et qu'il a payé 30 000 francs pour produire la première édition en miniature qui comprend sa dédicace à Cervantès après la page de titre. A lovely copy of this miniature edition. Contemporary brown leather Simier of Paris signed Cathedral Binding, with profuse gilt decoration and armourial crest to the boards. Gilt design, titles and windmill to the spines. This binding is identical to one part of the British Library Charles Ramsden Collection of Signed Bindings. (See BL Shelfmark c150k11) A little rubbing to the bindings, with slight loss of gilt, but overall, in excellent condition. The hinges have been professionally restored at some point, in a way that is barely noticeable. Marbled end papers. Illustrated with 11 plates engraved by E Stalker (including Frontis) and a folding hand coloured map. Complete. Half title to each volume, and an engraved title on glossy paper, and a second engraved title. Vol. 1 has a frontispiece portrait of Cervantes, (portrait of Cervantes engraved by E. Stalker after José del Castillo's design). and 5 engraved plates. It ends with the beautiful miniature hand coloured map, showing Don Quixote's travels. Volume 2 offers 5 engraved plates. Inside, the books are in very good condition, but with a little darkening and moderate foxing to the pages. Still a very nice copy. This was the second edition of Don Quijote by Ferrer. The first was in one volume, this edition allowed better line spacing, and two extra plates. Originally issued in paper wrappers, this luxurious binding adds greatly to the attractiveness of this work. Nb. Many sources quote STAKKER as the engraver, but a close look at the engravings shows that it is E. Stalker. Christie's commented in a recent auction that Ferrer was a great admirer of Cervantes and paid 30,000 francs in order to produce the first edition in miniature which includes his dedication to Cervantes after the title page. Celles-ci sont principalement propres, mais présentent quelques marques sur la couverture arrière. Très légère usure des bords. Taches à l'intérieur de la couverture. Les couvertures en papier ont été doublées de papier, et les couvertures avant et arrière ont commencé à se décoller. Nom du propriétaire soigneusement inscrit sur la première page / page de titre. Le reste du livre est propre, avec des rousseurs légères à modérées. Seize pages numérotées, imprimées uniquement au recto. Chacune contient quatre caricatures. 23,5 cm x 18 cm. Very slight edgewear. Staining to the inside cover. The paper covers have been lined with paper, and to both front and rear cover has started to lift. Neat owner's name to the first page / title page. The rest of the book is clean, with a light to moderate foxing to them. Sixteen numbered pages, printed to the recto only. Each has four caricatures to them. 23.5cm x 18cm. Conforms to WorldCat / OCLC: 2065854. Cham (Charles-Amédée de Noé, comte de Noé, 1818-1879), Parisian caricaturist and lithographer of aristocratic descent, defied parental expectations of a conventional career to train under Charlet and Delaroche. His pseudonym was derived from his initials (C.A. Ham) and the name of Noah's son. He contributed c.40,000 satirical drawings to Le Charivari (1839-75), pioneering two-panel comic strips in albums like Moeurs Algériennes (1843) and Les Toques du Jour (1847). In his later years, he lived in Batignolles following a sexual scandal; illustrated Album du Siège (1870) and Les Folies de la Commune (1871). He was awarded the Légion d'honneur in 1877. He died of tuberculosis in Paris. .

Paris Arnaud dé Vresse 1868 Première édition. Une collection de planches coloriées à la main par Cham. Nous avons vu des enregistrements de cet article avec différents nombres de planches. La nôtre est conforme à WorldCat / OCLC : 213799963 qui indique qu'il y a 18 planches, y compris le titre (d'autres indiquent de 10 à 19 planches). Le titre n'est pas coloré dans cette édition, mais les 17 "Actualités" ont toutes des couleurs vives et attrayantes. Volume relié avec le titre répété sur la première planche. Ce dernier est passablement assombri et frotté, et il manque environ un tiers du dos. La reliure est fragile au niveau de la charnière avant et a été renforcée avec du ruban adhésif d'archivage. Les pages de garde sont considérablement assombries, mais les planches le sont moins. Elles portent toutes le titre courant "Actualités" en haut. Chacune porte un numéro en haut à droite - bien qu'il soit assez irrégulier, allant du numéro 1 au numéro 285 ! Elles traitent toutes de la politique de l'époque, notamment de la famine en Irlande, de l'unification de l'Italie (qui venait de s'achever) et des tensions accrues avec les Prussiens, qui allaient bientôt déboucher sur la guerre franco-prussienne. Chaque plaque porte l'empreinte : "Lith. Destouches, r. Paradis p.re 28." Nous avons vu d'autres exemplaires qui ne portaient pas tous cette empreinte, et qui n'avaient pas de numéros sur le bord supérieur, ou qui n'étaient pas colorés. Dans l'ensemble, il s'agit d'un bon exemplaire d'une pièce rare. 35cm x 26cm.

First edition. A collection of hand coloured plates by Cham. We have seen records of this item with differing number of plates contained. Ours conforms with WorldCat / OCLC: 213799963 which states that there are 18 plates including the title (others range from 10 to 19 plates). The title is uncoloured in this edition, but the 17 "Actualités"all have bright and attractive hand colouring. Hardback volume with the title repeated to the front board. This is quite darkened and rubbed, and about 1/3rd of the spine is lacking. Binding is weak to the front hinge and has been reinforced with archival tape. The end papers are significantly darkened, but the plates less so. They all have the running title "Actualités" to the top. Each has a number to the top right - although there are fairly erratic, ranging from number 1 to 285! All deal with the politics of the day, including the famine in Ireland, Italian Unification (just coming to its conclusion) and the increased tensions with the Prussians which would soon lead to the Franco-Prussian war. Each plate has the imprint: "Lith. Destouches, r. Paradis p.re 28." We have seen other copies which do not all bear this imprint, and which do not have numbers to the top edge, or which are uncoloured. Overall a decent copy of a scarce item. 35cm x 26cm. .

Produit en 1845. Cet album a été produit sous deux formes, la plus courante étant celle avec des illustrations en noir et blanc. La version de luxe, qui est manifestement beaucoup plus rare, bien que nous n'ayons trouvé aucune limitation, comporte des lithographies coloriées à la main. Cet exemplaire est magnifiquement propre, avec d'excellentes couleurs et juste un peu de noircissement sur les bords des pages. Le seul défaut est que l'impression (ou le massicotage) est légèrement inclinée par rapport à la page. (Voir la photographie). Un bel exemplaire. The deluxe version, which is clearly much scarcer, although we can find no limitation, has hand coloured lithographs. A beautifully clean example, with excellent colouring and just a touch of darkening to the page edges. The only flaw is that the printing (or trimming) is at a slight angle to the page.
