A Paris, Chez Iean Brunet 1649. 2 parts in one volume. 18 pp.; 8 pp. 4to. Modern boards, gilt lettering to spine. Moreau 2099; not in Welsh. Original edition. Naudé refers to this pamphlet on several occasions and calls it one of the most remarkable ones. It should be noted that these remarks refer to the first pamphlet; the second pamphlet is not written by the same author and of lesser quality. - One leaf of the second pamphlet neatly repaired in outer inner blank margin.

Includes: "Arrêt de la Cour du Parlement de Dauphiné sur le commerce des grains" (page 36, not dated), and "Très-humbles et très-respectueuses supplications des États de la province de Languedoc au Roi, sur le commerce des grains", (pages 37-46, dated December 1768). Entirely of physiocratic vein, and of course in favour of free trade of grains. All three sections were partly analysed and partly reprinted by Dupont de Nemours in the Ephémérides du Citoyen of 1769. - Very rare.

A Lyon, 1763. 45 pp. Small 8vo. Modern marbled boards. Conlon 63:1331 (listed under Thomas, A.L.); Catalogue de l'Histoire de France, ii, p. 418, nr. 890. Edition from the first year of publication (there was also a Paris imprint). This letter was attributed to both J.N. Moreau (Barbier & Quérard) and A.-L. Thomas (Conlon) and thus accordingly was later collected in the Varietés morales of Moreau (1785) and in the Oeuvres of Thomas (1822).Both an analysis of the current situation of France and a program for its recovery. The author laments the weakend position and morals of the French nation and people after the Seven Years War which had just ended in the last months of 1762. He then proceeds to compare the situation in France to that of Great Britain which had laid the foundations of its empire during the war. He goes on to discuss the rulers of France and he expresses his high hopes for a long peace in which the losses of war can be repaired and relieved. Although the author understands and shares the criticism on the authorities and the monarchy he does point to past misfortunes and reminds the reader that the monarchy has always regained its former strength and glory with the institutions renewed and improved. His program consists of an appeal to the nobility to serve the nation well and use its riches for virtue, the intellectuals are urged to re-educate the people.'A dieu ne plaise, que je veuille dégrader ma patrie: mais dans l'image de ce qu'elle a été, j'aime à lui faire appercevoir ce qu'elle peut être encore' (p. 17).

En France, 1751. 70, (2) pp. 8vo. Modern boards. Conlon S51:11; not in Kress; not in Goldsmiths; not in INED (see 1094 for the work by Chauvelin). The 'Avis de l'Editeur', printed verso title-page states the first manuscript was lost and that it had been necessary to ask the author for another copy of the manuscript. The author did indeed supply another copy of the manuscript but only after he had made considerable changes in the text. This suggests that this is the first printing of the text. The Examen Impartial was written by the Abbé Louis-Philippe Chauvelin in which he argued that, although the clergy was entitled to its special prerogatives, it could not use these to claim total exemption from taxation.According to Conlon a second volume was published in 1753 entitled 'Suite des Lettres Critiques ....'. Conlon also knows of no other edition but the present one as the first publication of this text.

The first part, dealing with desertion, states among other things that capital punishment is useless ('inutile') as it does not prevent solders from deserting. The second and third part are two 'Lettres sur la Milice', the fourth on the recruitment of regular troops.

Paris, Imprimerie nationale, (1799). 8 pp. 4to. Disbound. Not in Martin & Walter. Main text Latin and French juxtaposed.Deals with the reimbursement of a M. Batz, holder of the concession of the 'péage' of Saint-Croix (Guienne). This reimbursment was established in article 36 of the decree of March 15, 1790 by which the 'péages' were suppressed and reimbursment promised to those who had previously acquired the concession from the state. The issue was discussed in the National Assembly because M. Batz was a member of the central committee in charge of the liquidation. - A bit dampstained.

This law was promulgated after the reports of 24 and 26 May had appeared, written by Borda, Lavoisier, Condorcet, Perronet and Bossu, who were nominated to examen the project.The canal was to start from the river Marne and to join the river Seine near the Bastille, and to join the river Oise near Pontoise. - In the left upper margin of the first page 'No 490' .

Yverdon, 1768. viii, 231, (1)pp. 8vo. Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, label with gilt lettering. Not in Camus; not in Conlon. First published in 1766, this is the last and best edition augmented with comments by De Félice. The translation is sometimes attributed to François de Seigneux, but he did not carry the name "De Correvon", his brother Gabriel did as he became "Mitherr" through marriage and hence was named Seigneux de Correvon. The present work was translated from the Italian by Seigneux de Correvon, the author of the work has remained unknown upto today. It is a learned treatise on property and civil law.

These three pieces of this trial are for the most part by Prevost de Saint-Lucien who greatly promoted the idea of charitable institutions. The trial itself deals with the freedom of poor marchants to sell their goods at designated places and illuminate their small tables with candles. Some responsible for maintaining order thought that this form of illumination of the small table and selling goods should be suppressed although a royal decree allowed the merchants to earn a living. Notes and copies of the relevant decrees etc. are included as printed notes. - Two leaves with a small repair in the inner blank margin.

Both parts deal with the Spanish War of Succession: the first part contains the articles agreed upon between the English, the United Provinces and France. The second part contains the Memoir presented by Alexander Stanhope, ambassador of the King of Britain. - Stitching holes in the inner margins.

'En 1814, Claude Gaspard Dailly avait épousé Louise-Sophie Lauchère de Laglandière, héritière de l'importante poste aux chevaux de S.-Germain-des-Prés à la rue Pigalle, créa, pour utiliser sa cavalerie, un service d'omnibus, 'les Dilligentes', et une entreprise de déménagements' (Dictionnaire de Biographie Française, ix, 1505).

Deals with the continued obstruction by the corporation of manufacturers and merchands in stockings from Montpellier and requests indemnity to be paid for the unjust and illegal seizure of his merchandise during a short stay in Montpellier on January 31, 1758. - A bit stained in the upper margin.

(Paris), De l'Imprimerie de Knapen, Pont S. Michel, 1766. With engraved head-piece. 15, (1) pp. 4to. Modern boards. Not in Conlon. Vincent Thomas is the owner of the Hotel du Parc in Lyon, "le plus connu et le plus fréquanté par les étrangers de marque", and claims his right to excercise his profession in Lyon, something the organized trade in that city refuses him. The court rules in favour of Vincent Thomas while analysing the legal development with regards to this trade. The printed names at the end are: Monsieur Terray, Rapporteur, Me Desmoulins, Avocat, Nolleau, Procureur. Around the head-piece various remarks concerning this trial have been written in a small handwriting.

Contemporary annotations on the first page.

The 'pièces justificatives' give full texts of valuable documents: 'la première sur-tout est importante, parce qu'elle est infiniment rare, et que c'est le plus ancien procès-verbal d'États-Généraux que nous connoissions. Les autres, moins précieuses, sont peut-être plus rare encore: on ne les trouve dans aucun Dépôt public.' Significant for the discussions preceding the Revolution.
